Former Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs: Trump Could Easily Make Mexico Pay for the Wall

"If [Trump] really wants Mexico to pay for the wall, he has many ways of getting many Mexicans to pay for the wall," Castañeda said in an auditorium sitting directly across the street from Trump's newly opened Pennsylvania Avenue hotel.

He could "increase the fee for visas, which is a decision made by the State Department, not by Congress," Castañeda continued. He could "increase the toll on the bridges [between the two countries] . . . again, not done by Congress."

Castañeda also suggested that Trump could tax remittances from the U.S. to Mexico: "There are ways of doing it," he said, "transaction fees, commissions, special fees etc." He labeled a recent resolution in the Mexican Senate to bar the use of Mexican federal funds for construction of the wall as "silly." (Somebody tell Castañeda's old boss!)

Seems like this has nothing to do with making an agreement with Mexico's president - since people were mocking last month because Trump didn't smack the president of Mexico in the face with papers planning how his government would pay for the wall.

Probably just takes a little creativity and a desire to do it.

Exactly! There's some people who actually think that the only way to get them to pay is to have the Mexican Govt write us a check!

Mexico will pay for the wall.

I'm always astounded by people that think that Trump means he'll go down to Mexico City and negotiate a payment plan with Nieto and he will agree to that plan.

Of course not, don't be ridiculous.

There are a LOT of ways to make them pay. Deducting foreign aide payment, increasing surcharges on wired money, visa fee increases, transaction fees, truck fees for vehicles entering the country. It would be remarkably easy and he'll make good on his promise.

" Even Mexico is building a wall now, and central America is paying for it. "

hi i from mexico and no mexico is not asking central america to pay for a " wall ".

people that really has investigated about immigration knows that mexico had too problems with immigrants and illegal immigration. mexico dont have a border with central america all that is dividing mexico from central american countries is a river that is cross by boat ., there is not such thing as walls or somebody asking for a passport ., if you saw the news and see many women with children illegally crossing to USA well those people arent from mexico ., they are people that enter mexico illegally travel across mexico and are smuggle illegally in to USA
., in recent years mexico had a increase of immigrants from central and shout America. you people think only europe and usa had people entering illegally when in mexico we had always people coming , the problem is many of those people ended stuck in the border some committed crimes because they ended wiuth money and some ended working for cartels, then when they come to usa they lie and said they are mexicans so when American immigration catch them, they get deported to mexico instead of being returned aaaaall the way to they real countries in central and shout america. american media lies and said that mexico had drug violence and even compare the situation with war zones like ****ing muslim countries when violence in worst in central and shout american countries like " el salvador " , brazil and venezuela. in venezuela for example because of that dictator hugo chavez he took the country and make rules like distribution of food by the government and guess what ? now people in venezuela are dieying of hunger, you know how many venezuelans are immigrating to mexico before and after that dictator?? thousands, and yes many i sure came to USA illegally because many of then just had enough money to make it to mexico. now i want to clarify something that many americans seems to dont know but the own USA government make the problem of illegal immigrants worst because of the laws that allow people from other countries to stay legally in the USA and that dint benefited mexico or mexican citizens. for example cubans that touch dry land can stay legally in usa (miami is full of them) puerto rico is part of USA (puerto ricans are only good to trafficking with drugs and munch on government money , is no wonder the state is broke just as Detroit) immigrants from central america countrie " el salvador " can stay legally because there is a law that was created in the 80-90's when that countries was in war and citizens from that country (most central american immigrants come from el salvador , the people and under age kids tyou saw in the news were from el salvador) that country is not in war anymore and usa still gives them legally documents and work visas. so again why talking crap to mexicans when we mexicans dot have any benefit of any of those laws that were created by the USA and that are being abused by those that CAN and are being benefit from it ?????!!! . not because someone speak spanish means it comes from mexico. the usa government had take the name " mexico " as a blame escape but yet again they create laws that accept people to come in to the country that allows people to stay legally and just because some idiot speak spanish assume is from mexico . is just blow my mind.
