Things are off to a good start.

As Brexiteers were not able to raise sufficient funds to fix up Big Ben to celebrate this historic occasion, Boris Johnson whacked a gong the size of a salad plate.

The next eight or nine months (need time before Dec. 31st for ratification) of trade negotiations ought to be interesting.

Seems the EU wants the UK to align with EU regulations on workers' rights, consumer and environmental standards, state aid, ...

Boris Johnson said there will be no such alignment.

Incorrect.
Fund-raising was stopped after Parliamentary authorities raised legal concerns over accepting public donations.
The £272,000 raised by crowd-funding was given to a Vets charity Help for Heroes.
As well as banging the gong Boris opened a £350 bottle of 1994 vintage Chateau Margaux left to him in the will of a Tory well-wisher with instructions for it not to be opened until after Brexit happened.
Ironically all the post-Brexit sneering by the losers simply reinforces the support for Boris whose approval ratings are sky-high.
Think of Trump and the " Brexit of deplorables "

Well put.

The people who come here to still **** on BRexit and look for every single thing wrong now that happens in the UK, aren't much for true facts. We've seen the same from the same posters here in the USA after the election from those incensed by the results. It's what they do.

They are always part of the problem.

Back to the subject at hand, what happens next is anyone's guess. I predict soft economic conditions for Great Britainn for some time to come, spurred by disadvantageous negotiating positions at the EU bargaining table over the next 11 months. The animosity between Labor and Conservative continues unabated, with Boris Johnson and his friends making lots and lots of money in the near term.

What "disadvantageous negotiating positions". That sounds like a political statement.

If anything, it's the EU which is at the disadvantage. The UK can leverage direct trade with the USA and it's now free to refocus on trade within the Commonwealth of Nations.

The US will not be allowing any nation to "leverage direct trade" with us-- America First, and don't you forget it.

How silly.

A Johnson/Trump trade deal will be a very powerful tool for Johnson to use against the EU.

Can't help but wonder what nations would be willing to help out the UK with a sweet trade deal.

Japan has already made clear that they expect more concessions that they got during trade negotiations with the EU.

Maybe Canada and/or Australia?
