More liberal appeasement for the BLM crowd it seems .

So now officers will risk losing their job for ... doing their job.

The Los Angeles Police Commission Tuesday is expected to approve a new shooting policy that would require LAPD officers to try to de-escalate confrontations before opening fire on a suspect. The move follows a nationwide uproar over police shootings and a campaign by the panel's president to drive down the number of these incidents at a department with a long history of controversial killings.

But altering the use of force policy means Chief Charlie Beck and the five-member civilian board of police commissioners would mean officers could be disciplined or even fired for failing to try to de-escalate a situation before using deadly force.

That's gonna put a cramp in their style of shooting Grandma when she's delivering newspapers isn't it?

The problem doesn't end when the focus is on the way they conduct "business". The problem ends when they are held accountable.

Its how they do it in other civilized countries, many departments already have this policy, and its needed since the majority of the situations are people getting shot that are unarmed.

Unfortunately, if you like to see POC get shot needlessly by police, those days will be going by the wayside - the old "war on drugs" type of department is going away. They will start dealing with crime with more intelligence. Especially since many former cops commonly comment that many cops of today arent trained properly for confrontations. Not to mention better de-escalation training will endure the all of the communities to the police.

"Whenever it is safe and reasonable to do so".

I'm sure that will bring in 20/20 hindsight experts into the mix, but then again, maybe not having something out of a video game happening in real life might be preferred?

Gotta think the mess we have now was brought about militaristic policing starting in the 90's glorified on TV's "Cops" which became the standard we have today. I kind of like the idea of not having BDU wearing cops looking like a Soldier of Fortune model and would like something like the old-style club and six-shot wielding patrol officer.

It will get cops killed. One moment of hesitation on the wrong suspect and its all over. Everyone will say what a good cop he was. Interview the family. Wife will get the pension benefits and then the news will go to the weather. Cops are better off doing nothing.

This is what I'm worried about as well . I'm sure cops don't want to go around shooting people if they don't have to . It's the Black Lives Matter crazies that thinks that's the reality .

Unfortunately the left bends over backwards for nutjobs like BLM ... and la is run by a lot of regressive leftists .

I don't advocate cops getting in shootouts for no reason. However lets be honest many shootings happen within the blink of an eye. No matter what its in the nature of the job that cops will invariably get involved even if they don want to. The others that are discretionary maybe the cop should drive around with their windows closed. Its a matter of survival in the streets or a matter of survival in the court system. Give the public the police that they want. Do as little as possible! Park the car and enjoy a cup of coffee.

I can't wait to see the outcome of this. After 25 years they forgot what happens when the cops stop doing their jobs. Apparently LA needs a good riot to burn out the old buildings and remind them why people shoot bad guys.
