No it is quite believable. But you are going to end up mixed up if you take my opinion of one thing, and simply assume I have the same opinion about another.
I do indeed believe and agree with both of you that "everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs" so there is a common ground we can build communication from rather than simply assume we are at logger heads about everything, when we are not.
But when someone says we all have the free will to choose to believe something, or to choose to have faith, that is simply not true. It MIGHT be true of YOU, but do not extrapolate from that to assume it is true for everyone.
I can tell you for fact it is not true of ME. I can not choose my beliefs, or choose faith, or choose to believe anything on faith. I am a slave to evidence. I am COMPELLED to believe things by substantiation. I can NOT believe things that lack any. That is just how my brain works. If you differ, there is nothing wrong with that either. Just do not assume everyone is like you, and I will return that kindness and courtesy.
However I must say that almost entirely consistently when someone starts to whine about "I have the right to my belief" or similar..... they are usually doing it because they espoused a belief and someone else espoused a counter belief! Almost. Every. Single. Time.
And what does that show? It shows that people whinging about their rights to their belief are not actually concerned about having their own.... but that other people are allowed theirs too.
It sorta reminds me of this cartoon actually. It genuinely does come across like people saying "I have a right to my belief" are actually saying "I should be allowed express mine without having to hear yours". And that attitude is VERY telling and not one to be proud of.
