The Turkish immigrant was not a citizen and thus was not allowed to vote, but that didn't stop him from voting 3 times.

Washington state doesn't require proof of citizenship. Therefore elections officials say the state's elections system operates, more or less, under an honor system.

The penalty for voting as a non U.S. citizen could result in five years of prison time or a $10,000, according to Secretary of State's Office.

"The penalties are very serious. That’s why we want to make sure we’re very measured, and this is why we want to make sure we’re very calm and purposeful in how we move forward," Wyman continued. "The stakes are very high on both sides. You want to keep the confidence level high, but you also want to protect the voting rights of everyone."

Wyman says while it's impossible to determine an exact number, she does not believe this case points to a larger issue.

"Our hands are kind of tied, but make no mistake, we want to make sure that everybody has confidence that people casting ballots are eligible. This is certainly going to be a topic at next legislation."

There is NO protection for Citizens when they allow Non-Citizens to Vote in US Elections. This case DOES "point to a larger issue". The issue is stealing a Vote.

Solution = Follow the Law, 5 years in prison for Voting Fraud. Why should anyone fear Fraud when they KNOW that there will be no penalty for it? "Calm and purposeful" is FOLLOW THE LAW.

We only have one candidate that is running for President that is in favor of FOLLOW THE LAW.
This corruption at all levels has to stop.

"Calm and purposeful" translates to "We'd rather ignore it and pretend it doesn't happen and when it's brought to our attention we'll do nothing but express our worries that it will disenfranchise and negatively impact minorities and other (Democratic Party) voters."

Wonderful, isn't it?

And I'm also left to wonder why this guy, who killed 5 AMERICANS, was even IN this country legally.

If true, he was potentially underage when he voted.

He turned 20 on 8/20/2016.

I have no problem with Voter ID.

That's 2 years and we have elections a few times per year, so he's probably ok as far as age goes.

This points out a problem with states like California issuing driver license to illegal immigrants. Present it as ID when registering to vote, ignore the "Are you an American citizen?" check box, and then start voting. It's only illegal if you're caught, and there doesn't seem to be much of an effort to sift through the voter rolls.

If they won't punish a person for violating our immigration laws, I have zero confidence they will do much to prosecute the ones who would violate our voting laws.

I can hear it now, "Arresting people for voting will scare those who can legally vote but don't understand the issue. It will unfairly target minorities and the elderly."

You know it's true.

FYI to posters, the voter ID would not have made a difference.

I am against voter IDs because they waste time and money. Absentee ballots are the primary sources of voter fraud.

Washington state is one of 3 states that does all their voting by mail or absentee ballots so it is not surprising to me that this fraud occurred.
