A Georgia substitute teacher has been arrested for allegedly inviting two male students to have sex with her at her suburban home.
Laura Rich, 38, who worked as a teacher at the Ace Academy in Canton between January 2015 and this August, was charged with several counts of sexual assault by a teacher Friday, WSB-TV reports.
Rich’s victims — a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old — were both of age at the time to legally consent, according to Georgia law. But that did not matter in the context, police said.
“It’s the relationship she had as teacher-student that made it a crime,” Cherokee County sheriff’s office Lt. Jay Baker said.
I think this did happen in the past, but people didn't worry so much about what a 17 or 18 year old male student and a young female teacher did until liberals had to make a federal case out of everything everyone does.
Honestly, that shouldn't be a crime. It's completely reasonable for that to be against school policy and for the teacher's actions to cost her a job, but from a legal standpoint, why does the law decide this? The law exists to protect people. Even if the law were to say she can't do that, a sexual assault charge seems wrong as in any other context, that same situation would not be a problem. Just as an example, if she thought at a different school but had sex with those same to people, it wouldn't result in anything. The law is going too far here. The punishment does not match the crime.
Lt. Jay Baker: "It's my understanding that the 16-year-old lasted a little bit longer."
LOL, I thought that was funny too.
And I agree that these things have been happening forever IMO. I went to high school in the 1990s and I remember quite a few of the guys I knew on our basketball team said they had sex with one of the female trainers/assistants who was also a teacher at our school. They were 16-18 years old and could legally consent to sex, same as this story.
IMO I think she should have been fired, but I don't see why they charged her with a crime and arrested her. It is not statutory rape.
And FWIW, I would and have felt the same for girls in that age who have sex with an older man. They know what they are doing. When I was in high school, I was shocked to find out one of my classmates, who was 16 said that one of my dad's friends (who was in his 40s) was her "boyfriend." IMO it was disgusting/nasty to be with such an "old man." But I didn't consider it a crime back then and don't now either if everyone is consenting.
And the inappropriate relationships continue on and on.
Cue the "where were these teachers when I was going to school" comments from some of the guys.
where were these teachers when I was going to school?
