No surprise to me. We know they've planned even worse in the past (Operation Northwoods) and they haven't exactly become more trustworthy since then.
What does surprise me is that even after this kind of stuff comes out, people are still told to get their tinfoil hat if they even question if a mass shooting, bombing, or some other terror attack was allowed (or even funded) by the government. Anyone who doesn't entertain those thoughts is too trusting.

The firm created television ads showing Al-Qaeda in a negative light as well as creating content to look as though it had come from “Arabic TV.”
They would craft scripts for Arabic soap operas where characters would reject terrorism with happy consequences. The firm also created fake Al-Qaeda propaganda videos, which were then planted by the military in homes they raided.
The thread title is misleading. According to the article the Pentagon paid half a billion in total to a U.K. firm for all of its communications and propaganda services in Iraq, some fraction of which was used to make the fake terrorist videos. It seems ridiculous, but then so do many military expenditures. America is now in the process of spending $1.7B to buy radios for Afghans. This amount is enough to equip every last member of the Afghan military with a device costing roughly $10,000.

Even more interesting is to note that some of these same posters are anti-Muslim-immigrant based on terrorism concerns. If it WAS true that the US was making fake terrorist videos, shouldn't that be enough to make them question their antipathy to Muslims? Conversely, if it WAS true that Obama favors Muslims over Americans, why would he oversee the making of fake terrorism videos?

No, they were trying to get the decent Muslims to realize what the Islamic terrorist were really up to.

I'm certainly not going to take their word (offered only after they were CAUGHT)
concerning the intended audiences of their fake, staged videos.
Al-Queda and ISIS videos are broadcast on American media.
We know the Pentagon and CIA manufactured Bin Laden videos, and that
he worked for the CIA. We know they support these terrorist groups, indeed,
that they intentionally formed them. We also know Obama and Hillary Clinton
lied to us about their weapons-to-Al-Queda program in Benghazi which they
told us was all about another video.
