AZ and other states have a major problem with illegal immigration. The Senate passed a bill in 2013 which would have contained illegal immigration by now, with provisions such as required identity checks. The House Republicans blocked this legislation and in the following years have not produced an alternative immigration bill.

Regardless of the financial outcome for medical providers, the certainty is that healthcare for Arizona in its entirety has improved.

Alzheimer's is the most expensive disease in the US.

Medicare costs are 3x higher for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's than not.

Medicaid costs are 19x higher for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's than not. This is due to nursing home care when people run out of money.

Most diagnosed with Alzheimer's or other dementia have other healthcare issues.

Unlike most other diseases, Alzheimer's cannot be prevented, cured or slowed.

Where is the promised Republican legislation to replace the Affordable Care Act?

Why does the U.S. have by far the highest drug prices in the world, and yet the Republicans block any effort to eliminate this immense problem?

High drug prices? Look to the FDA and its practice of pay to play and limits on competition.
When has govt made any product or service cheaper without creating the opposite or shortages?
On the other hand, look at what robust competition in a relatively free market has done for advances and pricing with items such as computers, refrigerators, cell phones, televisions...

Get the govt out and this means D's and R's.

IMO, largely baloney. E.g., the Republicans won't allow even Medicare to negotiate prices with pharma companies. Negotiation is part of the bedrock of any free market.

Do you deny that Canada has much lower drug prices than in the U.S., greatly because a panel sets drug prices on patented medicine?

Yeah I know.

But that's why people living longer (which tend to be folks who didn't smoke/drink/drugs/get heavy) costs everyone more money.

Health care, like government in general, is designed to ideally have people make a lot of money in life, pay premiums but never get sick, then drop dead once they are no longer productive.

Makes ya proud to be an American, don't it?

All I've seen is that the people at the low end without insurance still can't afford the premiums on increasingly fewer offered plans, even if everyone is theoretically offered coverage. Everyone else's costs are going through the roof with the increased regulation, general overhead, and the fact that only the sick are buying insurance, and people are only buying when they expect they might need coverage.

More advanced and expensive medical technology, increasingly poor health of Americans (e.g., obesity), and mushrooming drug prices all are factors.

Congress could easily deal with drug prices, but the Republicans refuse to do so. As a result, higher premiums are impacting both Obamacare and private employer plans. Note in post 8 that adjusted healthcare premiums in Ohio are 20 percent lower for Obamacare over private plan premiums.

Why Are Prescription Drug Prices So Expensive in the U.S.?

Click on "chart" and "U.S. dollars/capita" here:

https://data.oecd.org/healthres/phar...l-spending.htm

Note the above results are for 2014 and that drug costs in the U.S. have been increasing by 10 percent annually.

It's a disgusting political trick to blame the Affordable Care Act for the problems with health insurance while the Republicans do nothing to address the problem.

Talk to persons on Medicare about how their out-of-pocket drug costs have soared due to drug price increases that wouldn't be tolerated in any other developed countries.

The Republicans have had years to provide alternatives and yet have not done so. Why?

Because the Democrats killed those bills before they even come forward.

Also mandate a fixed price is a stupidity not a solution.
