Fact is we really don't know a thing about this officer. May have been a great one, may have been a bad one. There is already a big enough wedge in between us all and this assertion that all badge wearers are heroes does nothing but drive it deeper.
You obviously didn't read the article.

And now...for more of the story....

The last time I can remember lining the freeway was standing at attention on the 101 when President Reagan was carried by...

The citizens of Los Angeles gave Steve such an honor...and the overpasses were filled....

LOS ANGELES – A gunman first shot and wounded a Los Angeles County sheriff's sergeant before standing over him and pumping four bullets into his body, Sheriff Jim McDonnell says

The new comments came Thursday in the death of Sgt. Steven Owen, which McDonnell called a "calculated execution."

The 53-year-old Owen was shot while responding to a report of a burglary in progress Wednesday at an apartment building in Lancaster.

Owen went behind the building, where the gunman shot him with a stolen gun then stood over his body and fired four more times, McDonnell said at a news conference.

"He then unsuccessfully searched the body for the sergeant's weapon, with the intent to use it to murder the first responding deputy," the sheriff said.

Trenton Trevon Lovell, 27, of Lancaster was arrested in the killing.

Authorities said he pointed a gun at a deputy who responded and was shot in the shoulder before stealing Owens' patrol car, backing up and ramming another patrol car with it.

He then ran into a house where two teenagers were cowering before SWAT team members rescued them and forced Lovell to run out the back, McDonnell said.

Lovell was treated for his wound and remained jailed without bail. It was not clear if he has an attorney.

McDonnell was asked whether the sergeant, a 29-year veteran of the Sheriff's Department, may have tried to avoid shooting the suspect, possibly deciding not to use his own gun.

"There was only the two of them there initially, so I don't know that we'll ever be able to answer what happened in that split-second," McDonnell said. However, he said the killer may have been able to draw a gun surreptitiously while the sergeant had his own gun out and was requesting backup.

McDonnell rejected any suggestion that Lovell, who is black, may have shot in self-defense — a question apparently prompted by controversy over recent shootings of young black men in police confrontations.

"This is an individual that was certainly the aggressor, somebody who is truly a predator, and not somebody who was defending himself in any manner," McDonnell said.

Lovell has been arrested a dozen times, including one on suspicion of selling marijuana when he was a juvenile. He has also served two state prison sentences, McDonnell said.

The news conference was held as Owen's body was escorted from a morgue in Los Angeles back to Lancaster, where hundreds of people stood on an overpass draped with U.S. flags to watch as the hearse passed.

At the news conference, the sheriff said Owen was a model peace officer who was well-liked by local residents who had met him.

"They are saying that on their worst day, he helped them believe that tomorrow would be a better one," McDonnell said.

In 2014, Owen was one of several deputies from the Lancaster station who received Sheriff's Department medals for meritorious conduct after they captured a gunman in a bulletproof vest who had taken a driver hostage and used him as a human shield after a police chase.

This was sent to me in an email.

Now let me see if I have this right. There's no guidance or discipline in the home. The family situation is so unstable; 'Junior' doesn't even know where to send a Father's Day card. Junior gets dumped into the education system where he is socially promoted because the overwhelmed school district can't deal with the undisciplined whelp. Junior's major formative influences are 'gangsta' rap videos and a corresponding peer group of gangsta wannabes.

At age 18, Junior is turned loose on society carrying a bad attitude, a broken moral compass and no respect for authority. Junior gets himself in big trouble with the law because he is illiterate, unskilled, unemployable and his only source of income other than Government assistance is illegal and he meets dire consequences. Then, the situation diagnosis is that the police need more training, compassion, sensitivity and understanding?
Pardon me for asking, but do you really believe this BULLSH..?

Yeah and you know where you will find most of their off spring? Those mulattoes who have a lot more rapist blood than I do.

USATODAY.com - DNA rewrites history for African-Americans
About 30% of black Americans who take DNA tests to determine their African lineage prove to be descended from Europeans on their father's side, says Rick Kittles, scientific director of African Ancestry, a Washington, D.C., company that began offering the tests in 2003. Almost all black Americans whom Kittles has tested descended from African women, he says.

So why is the off spring of a rapist telling me a thing or two?

The memoriam written for Steve...

From LASD ..written by Steve's radiocar partner from early in his career

SERGEANT STEVE OWEN LAST WATCH -

One of the Beatitudes expresses the words of Our Lord and tells us that, “Blessed are the Peace-Keepers for they shall be called children of God.” In those words Our Lord makes a commitment to those who have served honorably in the role of peace-keeper, telling us that they will become a part of the eternal family. Let us take a moment to speak to how that happens.

We would pray that Our Lord sends as his emissaries, two of his glorious Archangels, at that moment when life and spirit escape from the body of our peace-keeper. These remarkable beings would minister to the spirit and allay the fears and explain what this next passage of the spirit will mean. Then, each of them, holding a spiritual arm, will use their great and powerful angelic wings to help Steve soar into the heavens to meet our Maker. The Archangels guide this newest child of God to the gates of His Kingdom. Once there, he will hear those wondrous and joyous words, “Welcome home, good and faithful servant, I have prepared a place for you in My House.”

The beauty of Heavenly trumpets sound a welcome as our peace-keeper passes by the spectacular Heavenly gates and as he enters he is freed from all cares and ills that exist here on earth. Forever, Steve will reflect the perfection of his Heavenly Father as he joins the hosts who have preceded him; eternally enjoying the wonder, beauty and love that will forever fill that glorious place and Steve'x heart..

The last watch on earth has come to an end for our peace-keeper. What lies ahead is an eternal reward for being a good cop and a good man. There won’t be anymore family disputes to referee, or heart wrenching injury and accident victims to tend. There won’t be anymore vicious killers, robbers and rapists to take off the streets. No more horrific crimes to investigate and no more white glove funerals to attend. The toils are over and what lies ahead is a watch that will never end, and one filled with goodness instead of acrimony, love instead of hate and beauty instead of ugliness.

The days of wearing the Badge of Honor have an eternal reward and now we celebrate the memory of the passing of one of those who wore it in such a manner. Steve served as a peace-keeper with integrity, faithfulness and caring. We know he is with our Heavenly Father where that kind of cop goes. Now, he’s is watching over us, perhaps walking a pleasant beat on streets of gold and enjoying the eternal fruits of those long years of labors.

May God bless you partner, may the Angels greet you and guide you onto an eternal and beautiful day watch and may the glow of the badge you wore proudly on earth illuminate your soul in heaven, now and forever, Amen.

Completely trashed. For BS. I don't know... probably wouldn't make me execute a cop, but I don't presume to speak for everyone. You are completely wrong. We need to get rid of mandatory sentencing, because they are a crock anyway. You have a million plus black men rotting in prison and 700,000 of them didn't do anything worse than have three blunts on them in a zero tolerance state. That should stop. In many cities with black communities the police don't stop cars with drivers of any other race except black. A white driver can go their entire lives without ever being stopped by police. Ever. Any black driver in the same city will be stopped a dozen or more times in their lifetime. Male or female, young or old. Being black the only commonality. Duh... they will find drugs sometimes, or they will find that the driver has no insurance in force. And they will go away. For a long time. That's the way it is now and you want to ramp it up more. Go ahead. When you have managed to extinguish the life of the black community you will realize that we were never your problem. You were ours.
Oh bullcrap. Here is your hero's background: Suspect in killing of L.A. County sheriff's sergeant was known for hot temper and violent history - LA Times

That stupidass whiny, don't hold black people accountable for anything attitude is what is destroying black communities (in many cases anyway, particularly what is considered "the hood". Granted there are a great many black communities that want nothing to do with that lifestyle). Black criminals and black crimes are solved at a lower rate than any other race BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY PROTECTS THE CRIMINALS. Then the clueless idiots whine and complain about black people being killed...by other black people. And heaven forbid one of these thugs gets shot and killed by someone defending themselves-the whole community goes ape-chit and tears the neighborhood apart. Don't want your babies being killed by violent criminals? Do something to get the animals off the street-don't hide or excuse them. And for dam sure don't riot when (if) they finally get caught.

Whites will get arrested and jailed far more readily and for milder crimes that blacks, especially in the hood. Stuff that I'd get arrested for are overlooked in the hood-if they arrested blacks for the trivial stuff whites are arrested for they couldn't build prisons fast enough.

That's something only the OP knows.

I can't even begin to guess.

RIP Sergeant Owens.

Isn't this what people complain about when a citizen is killed? "Your unarmed driver had been arrest 8 times in the past"

IMO no one has the right to take the life of another outside of actual direct self defense and it's a sad situation whenever it happens outside of those parameters, and even then I don't cheer it.
