Ok, the charges are over the top, but still, why do young people these days feel a need to take suggestive pictures of themselves and send them to others? Don't they realize these pictures can be posted online? I just don't get this mindset of texting things like that, especially young people.
An Iowa county prosecutor has threatened to charge a 14-year-old girl with “sexual exploitation of a minor” for taking two suggestive photos of herself and sending them to a male classmate. The girl, who’s using the name Nancy Doe, texted one photo of herself wearing a sports bra and boy shorts, and one without the bra but with her hair hiding her breasts.
Now, her family is suing Marion County Attorney Ed Bull to prevent him from moving forward with the charges. A lawsuit filed on Sept. 28 accuses Bull of “retaliation” against Doe and her family for asserting their First and 14th Amendment rights and asks for a permanent injunction against any criminal charges he might bring.
It is a stupid thing to do but kids do stupid things.....it's why we don't generally send them out on their own as kids....but it's something for the parents to handle, not some headline seeking prosecutor.
Let me guess, this is one of those prosecutors who's doing this to teach her a lesson. Because risking her entire future because SHE took a picture of HERSELF is totally the morally superior thing to do. Having even the charge of a sex crime on her record is probably going to hurt her at some point in the future. I mean, ****, "sexual exploitation of a minor." That's what she's being charged with. Yeah, with context, no person would think she did anything wrong (because most people aren't as ****ing stupid as the prosecutor) but when she's 34 and trying to find a job and "sexual exploitation of a minor" pops up on the background check, she's not getting hired. So that lesson ruins her life a hell of a lot more than the worst case scenario of those photos being put on the internet where some weird guy in his basement can touch himself to. Ultimately, that worst case scenario harms her a lot less than being charged withs sexual exploitation of a minor.

'Murica. Creating criminals where there are none. Part of a larger pattern of getting as many people into prison as possible and creating as many rap sheets as possible. Very rotten culture.

Perhaps you can't remember the last time you had a sex drive, or you just can't relate to the sex drive and emotional mindset of a 14yo girl. Hopefully it's the latter. Whatever the case may be, just try to be a little more understanding, okay?
Dispersing pornography is a crime. She can be charged and placed on a sex offender registry. I'm guessing (haven't clicked on the link) the offense isn't that she took the photo but that she sent it out.

Understanding of what?
The stupid that kids (especially girls) put out there for all to see in this day and age?
14 years old?
You can be emotional & find support without sticking your half naked emotions on social media.
There is something very wrong with parents (and society as a whole based on your comment) when our children look to social media in order to get support from the 2500 +/-"friends" or "followers" they have (and most from posting half naked pics), but don't know who 99% of 'em are.

Understanding of what? I understand that the permissive attitude of adults is why we have this crap going on.
