Take a beating because she was worried about the scrutiny the department woukd receive? No. Take a beating because she was more worried that if she used her gun her life would be ruined? Yes.

Scrutiny on national news? Who cares about that? Given the number of shootings and the number of police found guilty of any wrong doing, I'd say it was a safe bet nobody would have faulted her. Particularly given her injuries.
