Question about third party primaries? (parties, election, elect, states)

3rd Party Primaries are usually held in a few States. How are those States selected? Does it go by number of voters in that State registered to the Party, number of votes they received in the last Presidential election, how many elected officials of their respective Party in the State, or something entirely differently?

Depends on both the state and the party. Some states will put anyone on the ballot who announces, some won't. And some parties choose to have a convention to select their nominee, since a small party can get most of their voters in the same convention center, so they don't bother with a primary ballot.

So it's ultimately up to the 3rd Party in the State if they want to petition to the State to have a primary for their candidate.

I know the Greens and Libs have primaries & a convention. I am split 50/50 with them. If more votes for Johnson would allow more primaries for the Libertarians I vote for him.
