Clearly, a growing number of jurisdictions in the US are recognizing the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples' Day in lieu of the federal holiday that is Columbus Day.
I decided to create a poll to gauge opinions on this matter. I recognize that opinions may be nuanced, and you can certainly expound upon your own, but if you had if you had to choose one celebration, which one would you choose?
So, what exactly, would a day called "indigenous peoples day" be commemorating? Columbus Day commemorates the "discovery" of America by Columbus. What would be the significant occurrence that would warrant a day called "indigenous peoples day" on that same day?
I think what this is, is simply an "F U" to America, and for that reason, I find it offensive.
This is true, and I remember a National Geographic article from many years ago (I was a teen) tracing the probable migration of the so-called "indigenous" people to this continent, via the Aleutian Chain, to Alaska, and South.

The relatives of a much-debated 8,500-year-old skeleton found in Kennewick, Washington, have been pinned down: The middle-age man was most closely related to modern-day Native Americans, DNA from his hand reveals.

That's true, but either holiday can tell us just that. Columbus Day is like "rubbing it in" from a Native American standpoint.
The Indians got defeated and; IF the "white" man really wanted to murder all of the AI's in cold blood, they could've done that. Many tribes did that same thing to the defeated tribes but, that nasty history's hidden away.
