Gina Zuk Gerber, a Baltimore mom of two and public relations executive, was shopping for her 1-year-old daughter when she came across one of Fisher-Price's Little People toys that she initially "thought was a joke," she told ABC News.
The Little People toy SUV features a "mom figure," according to the product description. And on the box it reads, "Time for yoga and a smoothie!" The toy also has an audio chip that says this, among other phrases.
More like "dirty diapers and screaming babies," Gerber said with a laugh.
Outraged, Gerber posted a photo to Facebook, calling out the company for the toy. "Today when shopping for toys for Anna I was disgusted to see the 'girl' versions of Little People," she wrote in part. "The only ones with all girl figures were all smothered in pink and purple, they worked in interesting places like the 'home,' and they all lacked the multiple educational elements the 'boys' toys had."
While I believe those in the minority (and I mean less than majority) need to have a voice, to quote Spock, "the needs of the many, outway the needs of the few or the one".
For some ungodly reason, one person who's offended now creates chaos where all bow down to.
It's like when Mattel put out a talking teen Barbie doll that said, "Math is hard!" It is the kind of subtle marketing message that undermines girls and women and insinuates that they are brainless and incapable of anything outside of being a wife and mother.
Mattel had the good sense to pull that item from its merchandising pretty quickly. Let's see if Fischer Price gets the message as well. I have no doubt a negative run on social media will convince them it's not a good idea to insult the intelligence of more than half the population. It's time for them to come into the 21st century.
The coffeeshop I sit in is directly across from a juice/smoothie shop and a Yoga studio.
The number of 'moms' I see in a day getting out of their SUVs and going into one or both establishments is staggering.
I invite the outraged consumer from the story to come visit and yell at these women for... enjoying smoothies and yoga. And driving SUVs. And being the living embodiment of a stereotype she despises.

Spock would lose his mind if forced to live in this nutty country!
