...Kings and Queens? Yes, there were Kings and Queens in Africa (the Rich ones mainly in Northern Africa and not much related to black Americans), and there are might be some small "kingdoms" in Western Africa, but the ones who were sold around as slaves were not descendants of Kings or Queens. Why do black Americans often refer to themselves as Kings or Queens?
...
Maybe their vocabulary is larger than your's?

Like I said in my original post, probably saw a Nigerian scam about a Prince or Princess and thought that all black people refer to themselves as Kings and Queens. After all isn't that an easy conclusion to make
I posted about the crown in an earlier thread and you explained it to me. So there were at least two people that didn't know what it was. Honestly, I thought it somehow represented Martin Luther King.
I think the explanation I got back then is much closer to the truth LOL.

You don't see Chinese or Chinese Americans refer to themselves as Kings and Queens, even though there were tons of power kingdoms in all parts of China and some of them are actual descendants from Kings and Queens.
From about 1978 until about 2008 I worked with quite a few Black educators and students. Only once in those 30 years did I ever hear the Black Kings and Queens of Africa mentioned. And that was by a student who didn't want to learn American history, and she said, "I honor the Kings and Queens of Africa", to which I replied, "Name one". She couldn't end of story.
I find it hard to believe that you've talked with Blacks who "often" bring up the Kings and Queens of Africa. I think maybe you're just looking for a racial issue.
But, in terms of history, in ancient history of many regions of the world the concept of a king or queen was quite different than our sense of it today. You can go back in Thai history, for example, and find kings and queens whose territories were about the size of a current county in the United States.
