RealClearPolitics - 2016 Election Maps - Battle for the Senate 2016

Looks like Republicans need 5 out of 7 toss up Senate slots or the 1st and 2nd go into the history books. Otherwise we can keep 8 till someone dies.

Florida is not a toss up state. Rubio is going back to DC.

Once a president is elected, the Republicans have no choice but to nominate someone. Moreover, keeping a split works against the conservative wing because most lower court's rulings would stand...and most of them lean left.

The Repubs won't win either way. Besides, they've already said that they want the next president to pick the new justice. If the Repubs renege, they'll run McConnell and Grassley saying that they would on a 24 hour continuous loop....not a good look.

That's by no means a guarantee. That race is really tight.
