Really? Then why do states like Mississippi, Louisiana, and South Carolina with large black populations always go red? You would think Obama would have at least taken one of these states in 2008 or 2012.
Because they don't have the same dynamic as places like North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. LA, MS, and SC are pretty much closer to the Old South than a state like Georgia. Last I checked, Georgia has over 10 million people, 6 million of whom are concentrated in metro Atlanta. Alot of out of staters(of different ethnicities) are moving to Georgia. NC has this pattern, as well as having alot of college students, and several cities of sizable population.
it is meaningless when it's concentrated so heavily in places that always go Dem anyway (CA, DC, NY, MD, NJ) as it has been for sometime.
But making GA competitive, now that makes things interesting.
It is quite meaningful in the Democratic primaries. Without the black vote not sure if Hillary would be the nominee.
Texas going blue in another decade is what would sink any chances of a Republican winning. They really need to find some compromise on immigration and get it off the table.
Georgia and SC are interesting cases. Spent a significant amount of time there this past year helping my elderly Mom with some health issues. There are a lot of retirees from the rust belt, and they've seen how their children's and grandchildren's lives have been decimated via NAFTA, etc.
Michael Moore calls it in this clip, but it's not just the 4 states he mentions. It's their retired parents and grandparents of ALL races in Florida, etc., as well.
I saw this in real life. In real time. And it happened. All those states: Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina ALL went to Trump.
Minnesota and New Hampshire will go red before Georgia gets close to blue.
