What's up with that? What will it take for renters and rental issues to get the attention of candidates?

Property values only go down in recessions. Renters must root for recessions.

One thing I find curious is that the real estate mogul somehow did not utter a single word about housing affordability. None. Nada.

Probably because he doesn't have the slightest idea how to solve it.

But on the issue of rent, there is no single policy that is going to solve it all. Each city/region is different and faces different challenges. It's best solved at the local level. With that said, the local government usually is too bogged down by local interest to do the right thing.

Obama actually has a plan to help from the federal level. We shall see how far it can move the needle.

The rent problem solution is home ownership.

Excuse me - but aren't there greater problems than how much renters pay - just like I'm upset that my school taxes have tripled but the schools are closing left and right as there are fewer kids attending.

Despite that there is illegal immigration, war in the middle east, Obamacare and a multitude of other concerns that top how rents have gone up.

No matter who wins - we'll be lucky to get those situations addressed. Deal with it!

Every time the government tries to fix rent it ends up a disaster and hurting the low income housing situation. Do some research and you will realize that the last thing you want is the government trying to do more.

Look what happened when they fixed health care. Does the original poster want something like the "Affordable rent act" and see rents double or triple?

If you don't like it, why don't you build your own damn apartments and charge low rents?

To win elections, the democrats will start campaigning to pay for people's rent.

For low earners by myself, only tiny homes offer the possibility of home ownership, which is why I have been advocating their existence for years. But protectionist NIMBY economic rent-seeking homeowners hate tiny homes so they are rarely even allowed.
