Saw this piece today and thought it was interesting. Although I was in the Army with a good friend from Ashtabula County, I'd never known just how bad things have gotten there.
This is the kind of place that Trump could win on his way to winning Ohio. Lots of downtrodden, economically depressed, working class whites with little post high school education and few prospects for the future of their towns.
Fascinating. A pro Trump piece or at least not a foaming "patriot, free market" piece that hits at actually why I have been hearing why people who are voting for him are voting for him.

Disclosure: I loathe both Trump and Clinton.
Lol...OK. but why the disclosure?
Why are so many of you posters so afraid to be pegged by someone as a supporter of this or that person or policy? Geez...no one here pays your bills. If you do or don't like Trump or Clinton, it's no skin off of anyone's back. It's just CD...chill out.
I'm just posting an illustrative piece highlighting the mindset of many Trump supporters.
This town and its story aren't uncommon, nor is the heroin epidemic. It's shocking, though, that more coverage of their plight isn't done, and nobody in government seems concerned enough to help these forgotten places. HIV / AIDS are also on the rise in towns like this.
Whether we're talking about rural America or urban America, poverty is the root of the drug problems and violence. Until we work to get rid of the cause, the effects aren't going away any time soon.

Good article - thanks for posting it.
Yeah....I had to call my buddy up and hip him to this story. He was telling me that it's actually worse than what's written in this piece.
I was just there Tuesday. All of N.E. Ohio has struggled because of the loss of jobs. Hillary does have to win big in N.E. Ohio and Columbus to win Ohio as she has no chance in the rest of the state.

The heroin thing...that surprised me.
It's a drug being used everywhere now. My county in IL, Lake County, has a heroin problem. Indiana has a lot of small towns like the one in the article, and I'm sure it's not the only town in OH with those problems. When I first read about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Indiana, I was shocked, but that comes with shared needles in those places, and not sexual transmission.
We have some real serious problems in our country that need attention. All of this bickering isn't doing a damn thing to move us further in resolving any of them. It wouldn't take a lot to start turning things around, but the few things that would make for a good start, are things politicians are afraid to take a stand on.
And that's why Trump, as bad as he is, got the attention of so many people. It's like he's their last hope, since politicians only seem concerned about them during election years.
Meant to add - hopefully your buddy isn't living there now.

You mean "disclaimer". I hope? In the future when trying to portray yourself as smarter than others try to use the right words and proper grammar.

He lives in downtown Cleveland...but he still has property there.

Look at the poster I quoted...what word did he use to explain that little addendum to his post?
What's wrong with you? Got a bone to pick? Go pick it somewhere else before I clown you mercilessly.
And you know I'll do it too. Don't doubt it.
