Passenger cars are required to meet a 27.5 mpg average, but Congress approved an upgrade to the rules in December, demanding that the overall fleet average increase from 25 mpg to 35 mpg by 2020. The new rules have not yet been developed.

I dread driving by the Shell station and seeing the price of gas. We've all but cut down on on eating out, spontaneous shopping, pleasure trips, etc... but at the end of the day this is all bad for the economy( reducing consumer spending) . The price of food, health care and energy really freaks me out....

Why should the Government tell us what we can and can not drive? Sure it's great that people want to drive Hybrids and my wife and I drive vehicles that get good gas miliage, but who am I, or the Gov't for that matter to tell someone they can't drive a car that gets less than 35mpg. If they want to watse their money so be it.

If the Feds were that interested, they could always go back to WWII style gasoline rationing books.

Well you could claim using more gas leads to being more dependent on oil from nations that threaten our national security. You could also say using more gas is hurting the environment which down the road will cause many issues.

Why should the government make us wear seat belts? Some peoples foolish actions harm the rest of us.

Why do you want to remain a slave to the Middle East oil cartels? Wouldn't it be better if we could all flip OPEC the bird?
