Ever heard the saying I'm laughing so I don't cry? To emotionally survive constant tragedy many engage in gallows humor. But..... Taking a picture of it is insensitive and just stupid.

To remotely understand gallows humor you have to have been exposed to those types of situations on a continual basis.
Granted the mother did not deserve to have seen the photo but I doubt the cop thought she would ever see it.

Gallows humor is one thing. Lots of people have it. Taking the picture is where the failure starts. It shows a massive level of irresponsibility.

It is no different than reporters and cameramen who take photos and video of tragic events.

Yes. Reminds me of Don't Henley's song, dirty laundry. We got the bubble headed bleach blonde. Comes on at 5. She can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye

I don't think I have a problem with. It is gallows humor. I challenge any of you so horrified and morally outraged and so perfect in your own sanitized lives to "walk a mile"

As long as it doesn't get seen in public...once in public purview it violates a number of policies.

Death is death...as long as it's not my buddies its just another day.

I have found that the moral outrage that gets expressed for many actions of police officers is misplaced. The outrage should be on the crooks that created the situation in which h police find themselves immersed.

In South Central we averaged a death several times a week...it was just business.
Reality..real victims did get treated differently than some banger who got shot... However I still felt the same level of sorrow telling the parent regardless of what their baby was involved in

The officer will get a reprimand and depending upon the department some type of pay reduction or rank reduction...dumb.. especially today.

I do note
This was not a public photograh intended for distribution ..it was stolen

AND

Every human being as a part of their education should be required to take a trip to the morgue. Seeing bodies stacked on top of each other, seeing quell being sprayed to prevent maggots, seeing babies heads cut open with power tools is sobering to most anyone

Drugs kill....sounds like this young man found that out too late..if you want respect in life...and death..respect yourself first by healthy actions

No, that's not the definition of "gallows humor." Gallows humor is a joke from a man about to be hanged.

Jokes from the hangman are just cruel jokes.
