We already have unlimited agriculture worker visas. This claim we need or should have illegal labor to save us from $5 apples is all a red herring to distract from reality.

During today's news conference, Trudeau was also asked if Canada's carbon-tax plan would put our country at an economic disadvantage, given that Trump is opposed to such a scheme. But the prime minister insisted there is "tremendous economic disadvantage" to not taking strong action in the fight against climate change.

"We know that putting a price on carbon pollution is a way to improve our response to economic challenges, to create good jobs going forward, and to show leadership the whole world is looking for along with the solutions that go with it," he said.

Trudeau also expressed little concern that Trump is keen to renegotiate, if not rip up, the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"As our ambassador said, if the Americans want to talk about NAFTA, I'm more than happy to talk about it," he said, referring to recent comments by Canada's ambassador to the U.S., David MacNaughton.

And Canada. We're the two biggest losers in this deal.

The Mexican minister indicated he will not renegotiate but wants to extend the benefits of NAFTA to others that did not gain benefits, particularly in Mexico. If you think that Trump will be able to substantially change a major trade agreement between several countries that has in fact benefited many US companies, good luck.

Canada just signed a trade deal with Europe that took seven years. A trade deal isn't something you just "tear up". That's Trump the real estate used car salesman talking.

It certainly makes sense to me that Canada and Mexico would both be willing to talk about NAFTA with Trump.

Hopefully if they can work together to update NAFTA then they can renegotiate it to be more equitable for Canada and Mexico than what it is now. It would be nice for a change if Canada and Mexico were no longer getting shafted they way they both are now.

.

Sure it is. You can tear it up in a heartbeat and should if it sucks. We have have had a trade deficit with Mexico for 20 years. Time for it to go.
