Our membership was girls and boys between 10 and 18. Originally, the membership was mostly white kids of lower economic groups (I tried in vain to get more black youth involved). But something interesting happened right after the Iraq Invasion: The demographics changed so that by 2005, nearly all the kids were Latino.

I had to think of that a minute before I realized: We were teaching kids how to be good Americans...and Latino parents had latched onto it.

How cute. We can send kids over to nag our enemies to death.

I'd hope medical exceptions would be made. I'm 5'11 and 120 lbs, can walk for hours on end (if relatively flat terrain), but get out of breath after going up 2 flights of stairs or running 2 blocks straight, due to asthma I have from growing up with parents who smoked indoors.

I've spent periods of months and months trying to improve my cardiovascular endurance, with zero gains. Doctor even told me to not bother trying to improve it much, and that it's a good thing I'm naturally slim.

I'd most likely die during physical boot camp.

There is enough waste, fraud and abuse to pay for a LOT of other things.

here is just 1 case:

"USDA01: End the Wool and Mohair Subsidy Background During World War II and the Korean conflict, the United States imported half the wool required for military uniforms"

" the National Wool Act in 1954"

http://govinfo.library.unt.edu/npr/l...orts/ag01.html

Wool is NOT used for uniforms anymore.

"A mohair subsidy continues six decades after it was deemed a military necessity in the context of the Cold War. The subsidy survives because its beneficiaries are too clever to call attention to it by proclaiming it necessary, which of course it isn’t."

"as is the $5 million wool and mohair subsidy.

There are hundreds if not thousands of such programs that should be eliminated.
