Autocracy: Rules for Survival

Quote:

Rule #1: Believe the autocrat. He means what he says. Whenever you find yourself thinking, or hear others claiming, that he is exaggerating, that is our innate tendency to reach for a rationalization. This will happen often: humans seem to have evolved to practice denial when confronted publicly with the unacceptable.

Rule #2: Do not be taken in by small signs of normality. Consider the financial markets this week, which, having tanked overnight, rebounded following the Clinton and Obama speeches. Confronted with political volatility, the markets become suckers for calming rhetoric from authority figures. So do people. Panic can be neutralized by falsely reassuring words about how the world as we know it has not ended.

A Survival Guide for the Next Four Years - Written by a Russian Journalist Who Survived Putin
Maybe it's just me being silly, but isn't Putin still in complete control of Russia?? So how did anyone survive it if it isn't over yet?

I didn't vote for nor want Trump, but can we all just calm down and wait for him to actually declare himself dictator before we start game planning for surviving his dictatorship? I'd wager a million bucks that he doesn't do anything of the sort.

The number one reason that Trump ain't goin' dictator is pretty simple: He'd fail. Miserably. Just imagine him trying for a moment. The military would turn on him. The GOP would turn on him. The police and FBI and CIA and every conceivable mechanism that he could use -- they would all turn on him.

How does one become a dictator with absolutely no means of forcing one's absolute rule on the people? The answer is quite simple. One doesn't.

If we each had a million bucks to bet on it, this is a million dollar wager I'd win guaranteed. It'd be nice because I sure could use the money!

Nobody said he is going to become a dictator.
