High risk pool insurance, just like drivers with tons of accidents.
The problem with this is, if insurance companies start denying everyone for pre-existing conditions no matter what the condition is, people will be paying huge premiums like they are now. Allergies and thyroid issues aren't the same as diabetes or cancer.
People keep saying they're afraid of what changes will be made, and I get that, but what difference does it make when so many people can't afford Obamacare?
And really, if you're relatively healthy like I am, I'll rarely meet my deductible or max out of pocket. I'd prefer a major med (catastrophic) plan.
I recall at one of the debates in 2008 between Obama and McCain they asked the question, is healthcare a right or a privilege? Obama answered a right, and McCain answered a privilege. Therein lies the difference between the two parties. The Republicans believe you deserve healthcare only if you can afford it. If you can't, tough ****. And that's exactly what we will see play out in the coming months.
Did John McCain really say that?
Hope that is not what will happen for Americans currently on ACA.
Those with preexisting medical issues should be able to get coverage but at a slightly higher rate.
Says who?
So, you find out you have cancer, and the treatment will cost $300K, and the insurance company will just write you a policy at a 'slightly higher' rate? They KNOW they'll lose $300K. The whole idea of the mandate was to offset those losses by having more people sign up.
Before Obamacare, all Obama and Congress had to do was to support those with pre-existing conditions. In other words, have the additional cost of insurance for these people taken care of. After all, the money for such comes from tax payers. Our government didn't have to take 1/6th of the US economy from the private sector.

So you sign up and your high premium. And if you the tow the line, follow general medical recommendations with screening, keep your weight down and exercise, and don't get cancer or whatever that year, you get some premium rebate at the end of the year.
Dont agree. Many ways to give it teeth. Jail... Penalties... Subpar service.... take possession of pay and property to pay for services rendered.
Sure... we'll seize assets, garnish wages even if they are using it to feed their kids and if they do not have anything of value we'll put them in jail.
Any politician on either side of the aisle that supports this proposal stand up and say aye.
<crickets>
This is why the Democrats never gave it teeth to begin with, Obamacare would have been DOA right from the start. They have created a mess that is both politically and financially difficult to fix no matter what your political affiliation is.
If you keep the pre-existing condition part then you'll have to keep much of the rest of Obamacare like the mandate. Without the mandate too many will wait until they're sick or hurt to buy insurance.
I refuse to buy health insurance until I can tailor my plan for me. I don't need to have all that female junk added for me since I am a guy.

Get rid of the mandate.
By joining a larger group you get lower rates. Lower than any increase you pay for having female coverage that you of course will never need.
