Strong ideologies can for a time can unify a people. Christianity for example is a non racial ideology. However the problem is when the ideology proves a fraud.
Racial tensions tend to die out the most quickly when the male ruling class finds the subject peoples attractive. Within a few generations they become one people. Aruba with Dutch-Indians is a good example. Islam also tended to create a new people rather quickly because they did not refuse Persian , Turkic of Slavic slave women. Few Abbasid Caliphs were ever born to a free woman.

I've noticed everything is from your personal point of view. Racial and cultural tribalism can often become the dominating influence, sometimes rapidly. Ukraine for example was likely unknown to most people. However it depended on the balance of power, and other exigencies like a greater threat elsewhere.
Perhaps you might want to look into some reputable history. Carthage for example was safe from Persia for what reason do you suppose? Do you think it had anything to do with is main navel contingent was Phoenician? Do you have any idea why some part of the US did not want to go to war with Germany? Do you think there was any reason why the Germans unified under Roman pressure?
Once an alliance is made it forces the target to follow suit and form alliances.

The fear of strangers that small children have is a survival mechanism, so its not surprising that older people also show a fear of those who are "strange" or different.
All through Latin America lighter skin confers social status superior to darker skin. A cultural leftover from the days when light-skinned Spaniards and those most closely related to Spaniards had all the power. Still true to a great extent.
