I keep hearing that conservatives want to "drain the swamp", it's a catchy slogan but what does it mean? The "swamp" is now flooded with a Republican majority that have always served special interests first. Do the people who voted for them know this? I'm guessing not. All many of them know are the platitudes they are served up during election season.

All the Republicans that make up this majority in both houses were put there by Republicans. The swamp is there by your own making. So what exactly do you want Trump to do now that he wields so much power?

It was supposed to mean taking down the establishment and lobbyists in Washington. But much like most of Trump's promises, it's already a lie that he pushed to get votes. His entire team is full of establishment and lobbyists.

And this country has never before seen someone (at least in the information age) more motivated by personal interests and ambition than we are about to see with Trump.

I believe it was targeted at insiders who cater to special interest groups, secret kickbacks, clicks, etc. I don't think Trump believed every insider is bad.

But, that's just a theory of mine.

Which doesn't phase his supporters. Corruption is only evil when Democrats do it. Republicans are perfectly allowed to be corrupt.

No argument here. If she was the best Democrats could do than Democrats need to take a long hard look at their party.

Trump voters hate Obama and Bush I & II and view Reagan as bad on trade. They view the establishment segment of both parties as pro globalization, open borders, unnecessary military engagements, unconcerned about the debt. They want change they can believe in.

Washington DC was built on swamp land.

GOP domination at local level hurts the Democrat's bull pin. Many presidential candidates have been mayors and governors and 75% of both nationally are Republicans. The few that are Democrats are mostly in CA, NY, and MA, which makes it hard for them to win a national election. What's really ironic is the diversity of the GOP's presidential field: Hispanics, Asians, and Blacks. The Democrat's primary was 3 old White persons.
