This election has really brought to the forefront in the modern area yet another divide that is within our nation. It's sort of the umbrella over all of the individual differences people have in this country, from issues like abortion and the economy to woman's rights and equality.
I would venture a guess that the founding fathers hopes would be that government would try to bring to the middle opposing overall views, knowing not all will be happy but will at least view the nation as striving for balance and unity. I don't think human nature allows for unity, because difference among us are hard to reconcile and it becomes a battle instead finding a middle ground.
Trumps campaign rhetoric just brought all of this right to the surface. It always existed and has been right in front of our noses since this nation was born, but he certainly struck accord from the far left to the far right and everything in between. His supposed "back peddling" on campaign "promises" (not sure why voters continue to fall for this) I believe is his way of attempting to bring the right to the middle. I'm not sure how he'll bring the left to the middle instead of pushing them farther away. He hasn't been inaugurated yet, so I know we've barely taken a step with Trump in leadership.
I have no solution to the loose two party system. A single system would lend itself to a dictatorship. Having a 3rd party become strong and equal to the main parties would cause chaos. But it's sickening to see the left protesting like babies, and the right gloating and slamming the left.
