the point, which went completely over your head, was the democrats kept saying that trump hated women and gays, along with minorities of every stripe.
You know, it really doesn't matter who he appoints as the left will still complain.

The "swamp" are the embedded heads of the government agencies who may not be political appointees. They are referred to as the "webees", meaning "we be here when you come and we be here when you're gone". Trump needs to send some consultants in to reorg and remove some of these people who run their own private fiefdoms.
We knew Trump was neutral. The issue is who Trump surrounds him with, who he gives government power to make decisions, those whispering in his ears, and the individuals he stirred up in the public who are frustrated/upset their political views guided by Religion.
