Evidently he wants to discuss information that requires a secret clearance with his family, very odd since he has military advisors and others on staff.
People who are not government employees can have security clearance. It's not unusual for family members of people with top clearances to be vetted and given a security clearance.
One of the sons has been put on in an advisory position and he would certainly need access to information or he could not advise the president.
Give me an example, of who has that. and his son In law, is speculated to be a close unpaid administrator.
Rem we talking top level security not confidential, or Secret There are many subcategories, but the only one that is relevant here is an elite category of Top Secret called Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented information, or TS/SCI.
The president can't just talk to his kids. He is asking for top secret !!
No, this is not what you are irresponsibly being led to believe, the source is one
ambiguous CBS article, which claims that Trump is "potentially" seeking clearance
for his children because he added them to the list for security checks..
Then, of course, Daily Beast couldn't wait to run with that.
The more likely truth is that they have to be cleared so they can move freely
in certain areas, I mean physically... not on an informational national security
level. So they have to go through background checks and be given certain clearances.
For example, they could accompany him into off-limit areas that require clearance,
such as the tunnels under the White House.. it's all rather complex, the Bush family
did the same thing. Technically, they are not "the first family" unless they are minors,
he's probably only seeking to elevate them to the same level Melania has.
I thought the kids were taking over his business??
That was the last I heard too.
I don't think the fact that they are his kids should count one way or the other, when it comes to security clearances. As I understand it, he has control of a personal staff budget, and he can hire anyone he darn well pleases. That is as it should be.
Presidents have always come with relatives, spouses, and close friends, I'm sure there are existing guidelines regarding security clearances for those folks. Trump's kids should be treated no differently than anyone else who is close to a president or who is hired as personal staff by a president.
Everybody is saying he requested "top secret". That is very different from being able to use the restroom in the Oval Office. It means you cannot discuss anything -see anything or get your opinion on anything you have no need to know ! Your job gives you that access, nothing else!!

This actually makes sense, and I wonder if there will now also be areas of Trump tower being set up that will require it as well.

Nepotism rules prevent a president-elect (or a sitting president) from hiring family members.
I wouldn't count on that stopping him!
