Maybe unions realize that legalizing illegals and being more global with greater foreign competition doesn't help them.

This was where she really lost the election. Look at the states Donald Trump flipped: Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania. For years, I've felt that the labor unions' tendency to go 60-70% Democrat and their overwhelming donations to Democrat candidates to be unwise. Labor unions are vastly better off if both parties are forced to compete for their support. Locking the GOP out just makes the GOP look for ways to destroy and sabotage labor unions. For their own sakes, I hope this is the beginning of a more politically neutral/opportunistic era for labor unions.
I think Hillary's failure with unions was that she didn't have any kind of a plan for getting their jobs back. Obama's eight years have been brutal to most union labor. Trump at least seems intent on trying to help.
What I do find absolutely hilarious is the backlash from the left. I've read on this forum and elsewhere liberals bashing "male white racist/sexist union guys voting for Trump." Yeah ... that'll teach em to vote Republican! Demonize and insult them! Idiots.
