And so it begins.

Chili's gives free meals to Veterans on Veteran's Day. A black veteran shows up at Chili's in the Dallas TX area to get his free meal. While waiting for his to-go order, with his service dog by his side, another older, white male customer wearing a Trump shirt starts to question the vet, saying his regiment in WWII didn't "didn't allow blacks." Mr. Walker, the vet, said he just listened to him, then got his food.

While the waitress was putting Walker's food in the to-go containers, the mgr came out and said that other customers were saying he wasn't really a soldier. Walker asked "what guests"? The mgr then asked to see some ID, so Walker then showed his military ID. It checked out. The mgr then asks about whether the dog is really a service dog. Walker asked the mgr if he'd checked out his military ID. The mgr then took the food back.

Chili's has made a statement: "We are aware of the situation that occurred at our Chili's Cedar Hill restaurant on November 11th," the company said in a statement. "Our goal is to make every guest feel special and unfortunately we fell short on a day where we serve more than 180,000 free meals as a small token to honor our Veterans and active military for their service, hence these actions do not reflect the beliefs of our brand."

Wow. Unbelievable. That must've been humiliating for that vet. That's gonna cost 'em some business.

Thanks for making sure the subject said black veteran. I almost decided to skip this thread but when i saw the word black I knew it was more important than other veterans that have been discriminated against.

The vet's attorney already met with attorneys for Chili's parent company, Brinker International for the payout. OP you are late on this story, there is already a long thread discussing this.

I'm glad the restaurant manager was let go for this. What a jerk. But, .... the restaurant patron also came across as a jerk even if he was in the right. One, bringing in a " service animal" into an eating establishment is borderline rude and selfish. Never mind that the service animal allowance is abused by way too many people who just want to drag their pet along with them. There are legitimate service animals who should be allowed. But others just use any excuse to claim them and they have no real disabilities to speak of. Add that to the handicapped parking tags to those who just want to milk the system for whatever they can get.
Then too, his outrage was over the top and he seemed very easily ready to escalate the misunderstanding and to be as loud and as obnoxious as possible. Pity the other patrons who had to have two nitwits arguing and making a scene disturb their meal. And, of course, the video camera comes out and the lawyer is brought in for damages. What damages? Give the guy a $100 voucher for meals and that should be that.
A few years back an identical case happened locally. A veteran wanted to bring his service animal into a Chinese restaurant and the owners refused him. He went ballistic since his service dog helped his PTSD.
