Chasing history to "make up" for things that seem awful today is always a loosing proposition. There is no end, and no real reason some things are focused one while others are ignored.

No just the opposite. I was parodying and lampooning the logic of the Left or lack of and the idea of reparations.

I have a question for those thinking of reparations. They never address these points:
1) Who will pay the reparations? The US treasury, all white citizens, only a few? the UN ?
2) How much will be paid? By the hour, per real estate?
3) Who will be on the receiving side? (Every black citizen, only a few, those living in the south?)
4) What about somone who has both black and white ancestors, will he cut himself a monthly check?

It's just a proposal. It has about as much chance of actually happening as the US reinstating the Kingdom of Hawaii.

He is probably talking about the stand on the corner thug who the government is already supporting anyway.
That is the only ones that I would think that would even consider Reparations.

By 2016 rules, yes. But, NO Civil War slave's alive in 2016 so it doesn't matter.

It's an excellent documentary and it's outrageous how the black residents of Forsyth County were treated. Forsyth County, Georgia can and should be pursued. Other cases where blacks and other persecuted groups illegally being forced off of their land should be pursued. These are all cases where something specific can be cited that was illegally taken, legal action should be taken.

It's a huge problem though. Blacks are not unique here. Imagine that enormity of reparation owed or land that should be returend to Native Americans. But it's the right thing to do. It's the legal thing to do. It way messier when you look at Native American land to be returned. Take just the Cherokee alone:

Can you imagine returining all of that? Can you imagine the billion if not trillions of dollars entailed in giving that back? That's just one tribe too. Easily a third or more of all land in the USA has legal claim on it by somebody who was illegally driven out -- in most cases Native American tribes. Is going back and redressing all the wrongs the right thing to do? Yes. But how on earth can we possibly afford it all?

You even have the largest instance of en masse white-on-white illegal persecution and land grabbing in US history: The Mormons. Huge stretches of Kansas City and it's suburbs should by rights be returned to the Mormons -- and this is a great example of where it gets ugly to pursue. What if there are massive skyscrapers on those lands? Should reparations be made for driving them out of New York, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois and killing many of them in the process? How much would it cost these states to return the lands that were stolen or forcibly abandoned by the Mormons? Are they owed some sort of compensations for the Governor of Illinois apparently collaborating in the assassination of their prophet/founder/spiritual leader Joseph Smith and others? Does the state of Missouri owe them a lot more than the "gee sorry about that" the Mormons got for the Mormon Extermination Order (or Executive Order 44), the Mormons that were murdered/lynched because of it and the fact that it stayed on the books until 1976. The Mormons did pursue legal redress vigorously only to fail -- much like the blacks who were driven out of Forsyth County.

My point is that even confining reparations to just white-one-white cases is daunting and probably too big to fathom. The courts are quite literally terrified of creating a precedent that would open the door to for every other group who has just as much right to redress. So it's not a matter of right or wrong. It's a matter of the whole thing just being way too big.

Ultimately, just about everyone alive today can trace their roots to somebody who was a slave. Just about everyone can trace their roots to somebody owed substantial reparations. So I suppose that somebody somewhere needs to offer a baseline: How far back can reparations be legally pursued and can the people of the United States survive the resulting cost?

The ancestors of the White owners or the ancestors of the Black owners?

Any idea on how to find out which was which?

We could start by looking up Anthony Johnson's ancestors!
Why?

He was the first free black, and the first to establish the first black community, first black landowner, first black slave owner, and the first person based on his court case to establish slavery legally in North America.
One could argue that he was the founder of slavery in Virginia.

So we need to find this Black Man's ancestors to start things off!
After all, he was First in a lot of this!

So my argument against reparations would be that it's not possible to blame only the Whites for slave ownership like the left/liberals have done for years!

The argument is over when the actual facts are brought into it!

One last thing ...
Funny how history never teaches about the White Europeans who were the Real first slaves!?
Calm down. Your hatred is showing. All of society would share the responsibility for the displacement of millions. I wouldn't have any issue with it because it's the right move. Not concerned about the handful of African descendants that owned slaves. It's about doing the best you can to rectify a situation.

Slavery has been around almost since the inception of this world. We are speating about the mass enslavement of West/Central Africans in the U.S.
