Are any of us trying to change anyone's opinion? Or are we all just venting?
It's better than going out and yelling at the d*mn kids to get off the lawn...and of course, you can do it sitting around in your underwear. That's always a plus.
I did some posting when I first found this area BUT hardly do anymore. WHY...most here don't have my mindset and I'm not into debating and arguing. Too old for all that garbage.
Hope we don't go w a y d o w n t h e t u b e s w i t h t h i s t r u m p f a c i s t.
Gives me something with which to exercise both my IQ points while sitting with my wife as she watches the Hallmark Channel's Christmas season... that seems to start in July.
As a member of the coastal liberal elite, I am absolutely out of touch with those who elected Trump.
But rather than offer vitriol, I thought it would do more good to come here and listen. To interact with people who are clearly very angry, to engage with them (and I do mean engage, not shout over), and to work against arguments that are just as one-sided about "liberals" as liberals have been towards "conservatives".
I also chose to post because, like literally every American, there is no way in hell I am going to deal with this at Thanksgiving. We all know and love people who voted very differently than ourselves, and none of us want to deal with this **** over the holidays.
So while vodka and Xanax are going to make Thanksgiving easier on all of us, I do post here because frankly I do not have any other way of discussing this with people who do not already think like myself.
Equally as important to me, however, was the anger I still feel at a candidate who would scam so many desperate people. There is absolutely no way in hell Trump is going to help his constituency. He's going to help people like me: wealthy liberals in urban America.
And rather than rub that in someone's face, I'm interested to see what else can be done. We're all stuck with Trump for the next 4 or 8 years, plus a GOP House/Senate. And again... while this does tremendously advantage me, it means very bad things for most Americans.
you said it so right! (no pun intended) ... we'll be looking back at these posts in 4 years time.... and just be shaking our heads...

Have you ever changed your opinion based on anything you've read here?
I'm here because I'm really socially isolated. I'm an ASD adult female with a severely disabled ASD son. I can go weeks without talking to another adult that I'm not related to.
Except casheirs; I talk to alot of casheirs. And my kids' teachers, which might happen once a week.
But none of those situations lend themselves to the opportunity to hear . . . & be heard on an actual variety of topics.
Additionally, I live at 7,000ft elevation & am struggling with a weird form of anemia & that makes it very hard for me to get "out & about" right now. The only way I have of describing what it feels like is to say imagine, provided that you are an average adult of average health; donate 7 units of blood all at once & walk out of your door to the top of a mountain ...
Yeah; thats me right now.
I'm fairly well educated & very well read. I'm also not easy to "box in" or label: I'm a 48 year old white female with Autism. I tend to be "left & conservative". I'm an RN for 24 years (but disabled sons caregiver for 10). I'm also a recovering addict & former sex industry worker. My father is a (Ret) USAF Colonel, mother is a PhD in BioChem. Great childhood. I have 11 kids ( & yes, I HAD them; 7 boys, 4 girls, twins; twice) & 4 grands.
I'm literally all over the place.
Thats got to be good for something, right? I mean; I have a lot of perspective. And no other way to share it.
I find other posters here are frequently able to sway my opinions. I'm an "open book" in that regard. The second I close my mind to learning I may as well be dead. I don't want to be dead.
Soon I will feel better & I welcome another 48 years of "Wow; THAT was weird!" type of experiences. It's kind of my thing.
Some of you; I live vicariously through ... I fantasize about what it would be like to be a "real" grown-up; holding steady to your morals, views, finances ...being a stronghold of consistency.
I feel like the demographics of CD forum members leans towards the solid "good citizen" type of person. I guess I am the counter-balance but thats ok; ya'll are stuck with me for the time being!

I post for lots of reasons. For one thing, I enjoy writing, and I enjoy a good debate, as long as it doesn't devolve into a shouting match or a round of name-calling. I also find it to be a good mental workout.
I'm not sure if I have changed anyone's mind, here or on any other forum I've joined. However, I hope I have given folks some insight into a different point of view. I know I've sometimes been made to look at old questions in a new way as the result participating in a forum. It doesn't always happen, but when people stay calm and remember that "opponent" need not mean "enemy," there can be a stimulating exchange of ideas.
One of the main reasons I started recently was to avoid arguing with my housemate. She is a conservative, I am a liberal. I enjoy political discussions with the opposition; she does not. So, in the interest of a peaceful home environment, here I am!
