Marine Le Pen, anti-globalist and anti-open-immigration politician, had been written off as having no chance in France. However, the latest poll shows she has surged into the lead.

She would have problems in the second round when she would be matched up one on one and it won't be easy for her. However, her niece (heir apparent) has high favorability.

Ipsos Poll
Le Pen 29%
Sarkozy 21%
Melenchon 14%
Valls 14%
Others 23%

What is interesting here is that the 2 big right political groups are polling at a combined 60% in France.

LePen finished 3rd in 2012 with 17.9% of the vote and did not advance.

Look at how spread out the votes are among the top 4 candidates. And there is still 23% votes in the others category.

But haven't we learned not to trust polls?

French elections are a little bit different because they are conducted in two rounds. The first round has all candidates compete, then in the second round the top two candidates compete. If Le Pen makes it to the second round, and it looks like she will, she faces the Socialists and the Republicans rallying around Sarkozy. Her hope, I guess, would be to draw in votes from Republicans and hope Socialists stay home. It's possible, but she has a tougher path.

Would be interesting to see if Europe follows our lead. They have been suffering in silence & continuously being assaulted so I am hoping they will take a stand against the bullies. Not even going to bother following traditional media or look at polls as the media are total sell outs.

Euro polls would be even more left bent than ours. I think Le Pen is most likely surging ahead now.

She will be elected. The French are sickened of how this once fine nation is being used as public toilet by Muslim immigrants. To visit Paris now is to be greeted with a stench of human waste and rotting street garbage. How french citizens have tolerated it for so long is beyond belief.

I do not think Muslim immigrants have learned how their behavior is pushing them toward deportation. If anything they would intensify their actions , that is of course if they are not stopped.

The Nice truck massacre on Bastille day will never be forgotten in France.

What matter is who win the second round and Le Pen has a big problem here. She need 50% to win and it's unlikely that people who voted for the other candidates will vote from her.

Sarkozy will not be candidate as he was defeated during the first round of the primary of the Les Republicains. It will be either Fillon or Juppé.

Was not aware of that. Thanks. The Republicans are probably better off without his baggage.

I have to ask if you have ever been to Paris as far as I know (I have been several times) 90% of the city is clean and not filled with garbage. The other 10% are the poor neighborhoods that have been poor for centuries and a few outer suburbs that are only poor recently.
