Yes. SS is a losing deal for most workers. Most will actually LOSE money on SS.

"As recently as 1985, workers at every income level could retire and expect to get more in benefits than they paid in Social Security taxes, though they didn't do quite as well as their parents and grandparents.

Not anymore.

A married couple retiring last year after both spouses earned average lifetime wages paid about $598,000 in Social Security taxes during their careers. They can expect to collect about $556,000 in benefits, if the man lives to 82 and the woman lives to 85, according to a 2011 study by the Urban Institute, a Washington think tank.

Social Security benefits are progressive, so most low-income workers retiring today still will get slightly more in benefits than they paid in taxes. Most high-income workers started getting less in benefits than they paid in taxes in the 1990s, according to data from the Social Security Administration."

SS is a pyramid ponzi scheme the government uses to keep funding big government ... yes get rid of medicare-medicaid too and combine these two into Health-Retirement accounts that you control not Uncle Sam.Illegal immigrants collect even more than my poor old father-in-law did and he lived through the Depression served his country during WW2 worked all his life is that fair?

We know that disabled people are currently living on $600 a month in SSI. The elderly are looking at around $1000 a month on average. If Trump slashes it in half, will America be great again do you think?
Right, Trump is going to push people off a cliff.

that ad ran its course.

Did it bother you that obama had his treasury headed by a walls st tax cheat and former goldman alum?

Did it bother you wall st donated more money to HRC?

Lobbyists must take a pledge to not engage in lobbying for 5 years after leaving office.

Fear not the lobbyists, fear the legislators who can pass laws. Lobbyists do not have the power to pass laws. Poor choices at the polls result in placing unethical low moral people in a position to be tempted by lobbying influence. Solution, select better people to represent you.

If a better sysytem than SS can be created why would you oppose it? Same with medicare.

Would you honestly think some Walmart employee with a 95 IQ in Alabama would know what to do with their money?!? Leave SS alone, for the good of the people

Good riddance. As a Gen X'r, I've spent my entire life being told SS wouldn't be there when I retire, yet I pay into it every month. The baby boomers could buy a house for $6000 and a new car for $2500. College educations were $3000 at most public universities up until the late 80's. They had what was basically a free ride for 40 years and they mostly squandered it. The boomers are are historically the greediest and most entitled generation in American history.

Now the boomers want the younger generations to pay $500k for a house, $40k for a car, $120k for a college degree and cover their retirement too? They can kiss our butt. I hope Trump kills SS. Then the boomers can work until they fall over dead, just like almost my entire generation will have to do.

A very large number of people are severe alcoholics that can't control themselves.

Do you think we should outlaw alcohol for everyone to save hundreds of thousands of alcoholics?

I can name dozens upon dozens of laws that would save millions of people. Should we implement them?

I look forward to either complete failure of SS or a drastic overhaul that allows me to opt out. I can do my own insurance and retirement planning and get much better results if allowed to have this money remain in my pay check every month.

Actually, you will end up paying taxes that will be used to give payouts to those who paid in.

No matter what, YOU are on the hook for paying out SS to others one way or another.

If people were put in a private system a few decades back, you wouldn't be paying nearly as much for what gen X will get.

Question: do you want to place the same burden on your kids and grandkids?

Now there are about 20% of seniors living in poverty. Social Security has been one of the most successful programs ever passed in the United States. It has done precisely what it was intended to do.

Read your history.

Social Security, however, was not intended to be SSI for the disabled, since they can get payments without having worked and contributed for decades. SS is self-funding, so there's no extra money, theoretically, for disability.

If SS is cut in any way, people will literally die. Some will commit suicide, and others will die because of a lack of being able to provide sustenance for themselves. This is a time of life when people are unable to do things to better their situation. Yet, they have worked for decades and contributed to the economy of the country.

This is what civilized societies do.

If it is partially privatized, SS will wither on the vine and die. It cannot exist without the pool system.

BTW...you get your contributions and your employer contributions back. That's how they determine the amount of your benefits. If you die earlier than predicted, your part stays in the pool. If you live longer than predicted, your checks continue, drawing on the extra amounts in the pools. It works very well.

It's not very different than a small village would go to take care of its elders. Pool their money into a fund to take care of their seniors. There are duties when you are part of a civilized society. We all contribute to making the economy successful, which allows certain companies and people to become very successful. Without the masses, there would not be enough people to buy goods and services, and the economy would collapse.

This greed is getting out of control.
I could not have said it better myself. Summed up perfectly.
