I just watched a TV program I believe was called "Lords of the Mafia" on the Decades channel. It was about the nuclear weapons black market.

This TV program told about missing nuclear weapons, stolen nuclear weapons, and huge numbers of black market busts involving nuclear weapons materials (with the merchandise in just one bust having a black market value of $350 million dollars.) And with items that can fit in a purse having a black market value of $350 million US dollars the financial incentive to illegally sell nuclear materials must be unimaginable.

It makes me believe that every government on this planet is mainly involved in its own economics and the businesses involved with their politics. And none of the worlds governments are doing nearly enough on issues like stopping nuclear weapons from falling in the hands of terrorist civilians.

"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported more than a hundred nuclear smuggling incidents since 1993, eighteen of which involved highly enriched uranium, the key ingredient in an atomic bomb and the most dangerous product on the nuclear black market."

"Russian authorities say that in the past three years alone they have broken up hundreds of nuclear-material smuggling deals."

Loose Nukes - Council on Foreign Relations

"Pakistan's nuclear weapons stockpile could be STOLEN by ISIS terrorists."

Islamic State nuclear warning - terror group could obtain atomic device from Pakistan | World | News | Daily Express

What could be done to eliminate the black market for nuclear weapons materials?

And what could be done to stop groups like ISIS from getting nuclear weapons?

Personally I live 5 minutes away from one of the most important ports in America, and at this moment not having a nuclear bomb go off near my house seems more important than any of Trumps policies I might disagree with.

And regardless of political beliefs I would assume both left and right could agree that our present government and the governments around us are not doing enough in areas like eliminating nuclear weapons black markets or stopping terrorist groups from getting nuclear weapons.

Shows like that like to exaggerate. Look, in the aftermath of the Soviet Union dissolution was the time of greatest fear. I was very much in your shoes.

Your concern is valid but I wouldn't invest much stress in it.

Define "nuclear weapons materials."

Gold and Platinum are used in nuclear weapons.

Define HEU (Highly Enriched Uranium). Uranium used in nuclear weapons is typically enriched to 90+% or better, not 20%.

Pakistan's nuclear weapons safety controls make the theft of a Pakistani warhead irrelevant, since the weapon could not be used.

Any weapon that was stolen would not be readily usable, since it would be necessary to circumvent permissive action link devices.

That TV show stressed me more than you know, and hopefully your largely correct.

But still,

"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported more than a hundred nuclear smuggling incidents since 1993, eighteen of which involved highly enriched uranium, the key ingredient in an atomic bomb and the most dangerous product on the nuclear black market."

And speaking 100% nonpartisan, I don't believe our government or any government in the world is doing enough about nuclear weapons security.

Chad.
