I've read conflicting and that was in 2014... it's year to year. What IS happening are fractured ice shelfs
No, Antarctic sea is is actually shrinking....
After a reaching its maximum extent unusually early and then following a period of relatively unchanging overall extent, Antarctic sea ice extent started to decline in earnest. Daily sea ice extent levels have been at second lowest in the satellite record since October 20 and below the two standard deviation range. Only the 1986 austral spring extent is lower. Ice extent is particularly low on both sides of the Antarctic Peninsula. Arctic Sea Ice News and Analysis | Sea ice data updated daily with one-day lag

Like I said, just read the abstract out of scientific American from a guffston or something. She's from scripps. Any way that was her conclusion after measuring 20 years. It's a lot longer than what you shared. The fracturing was her fear because the sea ice is thinning. Now they've deployed buoys and underwater drones to measure and record the southern vortex. They think they salinity levels are screwing with the cold deep wAter speeding up the circulation, thinning the shelves, leading to fracturing, which opens floods of ice pack open access to the ocean vs being held back on land... but I'm not digging it up right now. Footballs on.
Al Gore is single-handedly waging a war against cows in North America by eating them all. That is how I know he truly believes in battling against cow flatulence.
But the methane was merely rerouted out of his own butt/mouth.
For what appears to be the first time since scientists began keeping track, sea ice in the Arctic and the Antarctic are at record lows this time of year.
Temperatures in the Arctic have soared recently, and scientists are struggling to explain exactly why, and what the consequences will be. Air temperatures have been running more than 35 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) above average.
