Castro was a visionary, who made some mistakes but ultimately cared for his people and managed to stand up to the strongest country in the world. Cuba's healthcare system is as good as healthcare systems get. Who knows what could have been in Cuba if not for American-led sanctions that punished the Cuban people and severely weakened the country.

PS: a country that murdered a million Iraqis through war and sanctions does NOT get to cry about human rights in Cuba. Spare me. And I am quite critical of Cuba's shortcomings.
Yes we do. We are citizens. We didn't make that decision, our leader(s) did. And no, I didn't vote for Dubya.
He was a fighter and I think actually believed in Communism....and he was wrong abut the promises of Communism that became lies. He did his best and failed. Now that he's dead, maybe they can make Cuba great again. RIP Castro the failure to Cuba.
The news of Castro's death is all over our television news........ all channels. Not bad for a 90 year old guy, who led a revolution on a little Caribbean island 57 years ago huh?
He is a political and social giant of the 20th Century. To insult him is petty. He is revered by many around the world, and I recognise that, and understand it.
Circumstances ended up with him an enemy of the US. And it is not bad that the US was at cross purposes with him...he deliberately bearded the lion in its den...But it went on way too long and probably did more ill to the people of Cuba than did Castro.
Looked the US straight in the eye and said go to hell. And pulled it off.
Not bad for a guy running a small island in the Caribbean.
May he rest in peace.
Yes, Communists are always amazing leaders as long as they are not required to hold free and fair elections or allow their citizens to leave the particular country wherein they practice their amazing leadership.
That aside, Castro, confident in the knowledge that he was willing to sacrifice millions more Cubans and Americans to maintain his illegitimate claim to power than we were willing to sacrifice in order to end it, and by hiding behind a terrorized nation of hostages, did unflinchingly stand up to the military might of the United States.
