They weren't bailing out homeowners. They were bailing out the guys that held the mortgages. Have you bought a house lately? There are more documents than ever to sign because there is more protection for the mortgager than ever. Seriously.
And what sort of bailout were renters looking for??? Just pick up and move.
The GOP seems very conflicted. For years it was anti-wealth redistribution, now they all seem to want handouts.
??? ??? ??? ???
Current on your mortgage? Little or no equity in your home? You could be eligible to save up to $2,400 a year with HARP. Take 30 seconds to learn how.
USA is a big country. No idea why so many people feel entitled to live in an high COL metro. If you can't earn a high income there are other places in the country where you can live well. They might not be the most trendy or exciting places. But all that comes with a high price.
People who were there first shouldn't have to move just because some newcomer with more money came to town. Same reasoning employed by California homeowners when they passed Prop 13.
It's their own fault. Those people continually vote in Democrats without doing any research on what type of legislation they're are looking to enact and then are surprised when their taxes and COL has gone up. They don't have a lick of sense.
Really?
Are the Republicans going to create land out of thin air, build tens of thousands of units on top, and sell them at prices affordable to the lower middle class and below??????!!

Quoted for truth.
Have a friend in Indy. Flat and dull, but he "suffers" through it in his 2500 SF + basement + 3 car garage in an insanely safe great school suburb... 15 minute commute. He paid $200K. And YES THERE ARE JOBS in most skill sets.

I wouldn't want to live in NYC. However, I can understand why many go to NYC. So much happens there. It is a gateway to the USA. Frank Sinatra said this of NYC "If I can make it here, I'll make it anywhere". People who work in the performing arts, finance, journalism, banking, they often go to NYC.

I'm from a relatively rural area. Most people there make low wages and own their own homes. They will often supplement their food supply by hunting, fishing, and gardening. Like I mentioned previously there are plenty of places in the country where you can live well on very little. But most people are attracted to the glamour and excitement of a place like NYC or SF. But that comes with a cost, and you better have the skillset required to command the kind of salary that will permit you to live comfortably there.
Our family has embraced an extended family environment. This the natural response of the market to people that are having trouble paying the bills.
So we are pooling together our resources. Yes it hurts the local renters economy but this is the natural response that should occur instead of people spending more than is beyond their means.
The problem is, everyone in out society feels entitled to a house, their own car, etc etc.
This is coming from a conservative. I'm down but not out. I will meet the 20% of those producing 80%. I just need to get my feet grounded and stop getting pushed down by the Federal Government.
This is the conservative mindset. I don't want your Government handouts. No one has any pride anymore.
Just get in the soup line. Don't worry the Government will feed us.

They were absolutely bailing out homeowners. Bailing out banks and the mortgage industry props up home values.
American home values are dictated by mortgage availability. Your house is only worth what someone can pay for it.

That's an entitlement attitude left over from the days where you could own a car or two and a house working a relatively menial job. Those times are behind us now. My father raised his two sons and paid off a house stocking shelves for a union supermarket which is now defunct.
