I mean, if that isn't just the definition of hell.
Well-paid public employees?
Getting services in exchange for taxes?
Paved roads? Internet access?
What a godawful place.
It was interesting.......the people were telling their representatives here that they were not going to accept any new taxes and to not blow up the budget. They were taken seriously.
Politicians argued that there was no where else to cut. No one believed them. Guess what they had to start going after?
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more insane, heeeere's CA!
"Thought you were smart by cutting cable? Not so fast.
In a move sure to be emulated by other cities, Pasadena’s finance department decided Thursday to apply a 9.4 percent tax on “video services” like Netflix, HBO Go and Hulu. Subscribers to these popular streaming providers will see their bills on each service jump as of Jan. 1."
So they are adding a tax just like the cable companies have to pay and have paid for decades? Seems fair.
The thread title is completely ridiculous as well.
Really? First off, the thread title is the basically the lead sentence of the original story so..... Secondly, at what point do you say enough? When they tax your air? According to your theory since oxygen in a bottle is taxed, why not?
How about you start paying a tax for over-the-air broadcasts like AM/FM radio and television? I mean, they tax cable and now streaming services so why not?

I wouldn't worry about it unless you live there. The state and a few others like Illinois are doomed. Many with nice fixed income retirements will almost assuredly leave for other tax friendly states to their liking.
You'll end up illegals, the geeks from San Jose, and a bunch of highly paid bureaucrats---that's a recipe for collapse.
If I grew up in Marin....and many people my age want to leave, that's got to really tell you something.
Not a sales tax, it is some stupid usage fee type of thing you see on a bill. A lot of states already do this on Video on Demand services with cable companies (try ordering a VoD movie and watch how much some states charge you for a "service" fee), now it looks like CA is trying to move it to the Internet. All they are going to do is push people into pirating sites.
People need to wake up and get VERY angry with these stupid states/cities, but most people are so ignorant and lazy, nothing will come of it. The only power the people have against the government is when they are united against it, which is why government constantly seeks to keep the people divided.
That's exactly what is going to happen.
