This is a government of, for, and by the people. We have to do it.

We need to stop taking our cues from people who seek to divide the citizens of this country. "What's better for the country" - needs to be the mindset... not what's better for me.
I don't believe the bolded at all.

For the rest, it depends what you mean. I agree that people shouldn't be voting for their own self-interest (or at all ) but that idea is often corrupted into "sacrifice your individual rights for the good of the country", and that's how you get tyranny.

You see that a lot where people are accused of selfishness (or even treason) for not letting the politicians decide how their money is spent, or for not giving up their privacy in the name of national security, or all kinds of stuff like that. It's been done for literally thousands of years by governments.

Your wording sounds a lot like the sort of talk that was floating around Berlin and Munich in the early Thirties.

Yep. I was mocking the people who act as if that's a new idea, or that "if only our guy was in charge to do what he wanted, he'd fix everything...but those (insert opposing party) keep getting in the way!". It's been done throughout human history, but people keep falling for the same ideas if they're wrapped up in a slightly different package.

I voted for Johnson, so I'm already looking forward to the next Libertarian offering. I have a feeling that when Trump is done and after the left going completely insane... just maybe our party will emerge as a real force.

Johnson may not have gotten 5 percent, but he’s demonstrating that the Libertarians are on an upward trend. And as some supporters have pointed out, with 4 million votes, if every person donated $5, they’d have $20 million in donations and wouldn’t need federal funding for the next presidential election.

Well over 4M votes this time around. Best finish in history for our party. 2-3 more cycles and we may actually win at this rate.

Great advice.

And don't ever think that you can somehow do good using the very same tools of evil you watched your opponents wield.

The right gives Bush power to "fight the terrorists", Obama gets elected and assumes those powers, he does things like forcing citizens to pay for private health insurance, and also continues or expands on Bush's programs...now Trump is elected and they're upset that he has power to do things they don't like.

The state is who really benefits from this, not their subjects. Next time you want to give your guy more power, imagine and expect that it will be inherited by someone you DON'T want having that power.
Oh yes, I know what you're talking about.

Remember when Democrats rejoiced and defended Sen. Harry Reid used the “nuclear option” after he was warned by many that he would regret it someday. The “nuclear option” meant that rather than needing 60 votes to confirm the president’s appointments, Reid and his Democrat colleagues changed the rules so that all that was needed was a simple majority of 51 Senators, coincidentally the number of senators Republicans now have.

And now someday has arrived.

I didn't know this before but when a president uses his "pen" for executive orders the next president could use his pen to undo executive order. Both the nuclear option and over use of executive order should be a lessen to the left who took great joy in the power Democrats abused and defended using. Now the tables are turned.
