How does China step in our place? We have different roles in the world as far as trade goes.

Regardless RCEP is still being negotiated not signed. You are jumping the gun. But wait, Clinton and Sanders were both against TPP so unless Clinton was lying it was dead no matter who became president. You don't need to blame Trump for TPP dying.

I'd like to know what you are smoking.

Of course, China definitely has the capability to get their missiles here. Count on it.
And the US has the the proven ability to shoot missiles,Satilites and rockets out of the sky.
Maybe China could nuke an American city, But 15 minutes after that NO Chinese city would exist.
So what's your point. Do you think the Chinese are really that stupid?
Maybe under Obama they could have got away with it, With Trump and "Maddog" Not a chance.

Things will calm down, and life will continue.

I still like the fact he's not a career politician. A pretty face. A friendly wave. Reading from a pre-written script.

I always thought we were bullied into abandoning Taiwan. We didn't have to. The China of the 1970s was a backwater communist country. We had all the cards. Another example of a "bad deal."

OMG, World War 3 is upon us because Trump spoke to Taiwan. We're all doomed.

It's not like Trump is going to allow Taiwan to be independent. so relax everyone.

This is a brilliant move. It sends a message to China that Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty remains unchanged, but at the same time, forcing Taiwan to buy our Outdated Technologies and weapons Used by the U.S. Military.

It is actually a win-win for us.

Don't worry be happy!

What a novel concept: a President who acts in the best interests of the United States instead of making nice with foreign governments who plot and scheme against us, steal our jobs, and seek to destroy our economy.

Trump may well turn out to be a failure as President. Half the country and most of the media certainly hope so. But at least he shows signs of understanding which country he is working for. I find that refreshing.
Trump is working for himself. The presidency is just a means to an end:

The Shanghaiist reported last month that Trump was eyeing a major real estate project in Taiwan that would involve the construction of several luxury hotels and resorts.

For real if something like this sets China over the edge, it would be inevitable anyways.

The reality is no one was threatened. Beijing doesn't like the fact Taiwan talked to Trump.

They need to get over it.

No one is going to war over this phone call.
