Moving the embassy to Jerusalem is only happening to appease the religious right and their End Times fantasies. There is no strategic reason to do so. It's all based in religion.

Exactly. We've been a neutral party in the ongoing Israel-Palestine soap opera and this is just going to blow up that delicate balance for no pragmatic reason.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel; therefore, it makes perfect sense.

Besides, to hell with the "Palestinians".

An embassy is always located in a nation's capital city. Until Jerusalem becomes the capital of Israel, if it ever does, it makes no sense at all to locate our embassy there, especially since we already have a consulate in Jerusalem.

A consulate is the equivalent of a branch office, and the United States has consulates in most major population centers all over the world.

Relocating the embassy over an hour away by road from the Israeli capital would create a lot of problems and would solve none at all. Given the speed events happen in the Middle East, physically separating our ambassador for where all his most important work is done is stupid, and could be dangerous when trouble breaks out. Especially when time is of the essence, and face-to-face negotiations are needed.

No. Tel Aviv is still the capital of Israel. Tel Aviv is about 77 km from Jerusalem; about an hour's drive away.

Strategically, Tel Aviv is much better located, and Tel Aviv is not an ancient city, nor is it divided into 2 walled sections. Tel Aviv can be defended. Jerusalem cannot.

These are the primary reasons why Israel chose it as their capital.

Maybe according to your Facebook news sites. In reality, it's in Tel Aviv.

Jerusalem IS the capital city of Israel, regardless of whether some countries refuse to recognize that. When you think of it, its silly and irrelevant that some countries don't recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Imagine Russia or China telling the US the Washington, D.C. wasn't the U.S.'s capital city because it once belonged to American Indians and was unfairly taken from them Jerusalem is Israel's capital city because Israel, which has complete control over Jerusalem, says that it is. Period.

Israel is not a static country. Its borders continue to be redefined over time. It also claims the entire West Bank as its own, but the rest of the world does not recognize that claim.

Israel does not claim the entire West Bank as its own, though it has annexed some areas of the West Bank.

In 1949, Israel declared Jerusalem to be its capital. The people of Israel say Jerusalem is the capital.

Tel Aviv is the internationally recognized capital by thise who don't want to upset the Palestinians.
