It's not a few months; it's six months. Schools generally go until some time in June. January-June, six months.
Is Trump going to pay for that security? Is Trump going to reimburse the losses by local businesses and the inconvenience of workers in the area for her indulgence? Kids change schools. She is not special.

Not true, there is no reason to provide security as if Melania Trump is on permanent vacation. We should provide security for one location. Republicans attacked Obama and his family viciously for spending $70 million on vacations over seven years. That wouldn't pay for one month of security for the Trumps who are collectively costing $3 million a day.
Middle-aged mom posted that EVERY POTUS/POTUS elect is entitled to designate one residence other than the White House for full protection, and that Trump has chosen Trump Tower. I don't know if that is the case because they are following a law, or just following an internal Secret Service policy that has stood some test of time. Perhaps middle-aged mom will comment further if she views this page.
If this issue mattered to anyone enough then they should have Tweeted about it, tried to get a question in for a town hall, etc. and then, if they didn't like that Trump would designate Trump Tower, use that as a wedge to motivate people to vote for Hillary, or someone else other than Trump.
Why didn't anyone do this? I think the answer to that is obvious....a feeling that doing so would be unnecessary because of what turned out to be misplaced confidence that Hillary would win.
