This makes absolutely no sense, and everyting of it is false.
Yeah...welcome to P&OC, where people are allowed to push their opinions out as "facts". We had a Finnish exchange student in high school and he was nothing like that poster described.
I like how the "what race was the shooter" and the "what's his religious affiliation" posters have mysteriously vanished.
If it wasn't so SAD..There seems to be some sort of "Need' to blame Islam" for ALL ILLS!!! It's reducer..The world is full of people troubled/sick and propagandized to commit so many horrendous killings. Instead those who Islam haters ( hatred of the day it seems) always ASSume ..but Mis-information sites will propagandize every single affront is due to ______ fill in the blank group being painted as the Hated Group of the current time.
I saw such for so many groups over my lifetime..and the telltale evidence becomes CLEAR as a bell! It's very obvious what particular "Phobe" is within a poster's target of the time..eh?
Finland is dark 2/3 of the year because it lies so close to the Arctic circle. The other 1/3 is perpetual sunshine. That means for 9 months, they Finns have plenty of time to brood over their injustices, and the other 3 months, they're all insomniacs. Not a good formula for being contended or happy for very long.
It is so cold for so long, their idea of a good time is sweating until they're close to a heatstroke in the sauna. They invented it. Sweating is a rarer sensation than sex for the Finns. That says a lot about them.
They are a notoriously cranky and gloomy people, except for the Sammis, who are happier because they follow the reindeer as they migrate. The reindeer follow the sun, ignoring national boundaries, and so do the Sammi.
And that's why their neighbors don't mess with them. They're both militant and nasty in diisposition. Never do crime there, because a Finnish prison is worse than all others in europe.
It's a miracle more don't turn lone wolf and go to shooting others.
One and a half years. Seems a little short for trying to take someone's life. People spend at least ten years here, which would have been enough time to save these women's lives. I don't get European sentencing policies. I guess because they don't have the crime levels we do.
The sentences for attempted manslaughter are ridiculous, agree with that. What makes it worse is that a first-timer usually sits 50% of his/her sentence, in order to not be isolated from society for too long. In cases like these there should be no 50% rule, which is legally easily done.
Sure, we neither have the gun culture, gang activity or inner-city ghettos you have over there, but neither the prison-industrial complex. Putting people behind bars isn't a business, and actually up to the 60's we had a very harsh sentencing policy. That didn't work, and we shifted the emphasis on rehabilitation instead.

For murder the sentence is life. Of course, he can apply for parole when he's served 12 years, but if he's not fit to be released, it will be denied.

Oh wow, life with parole after twelve years? Honestly, it used to be pretty similar in Texas. I remember when a person receiving a life sentence for capital murder was up for parole in 15 years, then it was moved to 35 years, and then within the last 15 years, we now have life with no parole. The alternative sentence for capital murder is the death penalty, and Texas uses it. But way less frequently now that they have life without parole. I sometimes wonder what's worse. I couldn't imagine going in when I'm twenty-something and looking forward to another 50-70 years in prison.

We had a case where a person of a certain formerly nomad ethnic minority murdered his wife. The man got life, but was released after 14 years for good behaviour. A half year later he got into an argument on the McD's drive-trough. He pulled a pistol and shot 3 persons, all who died later. He got 15 years without parole for three cases of manslaughter.
The case got widespread publicity, as it was deemed that the person was clearly not fit for release, and why the second manslaughters were not considered murder. The psychiatric evaluation showed no anomalies, except that the guy is certainly a psychopath. These guys shouldn't wander on our streets. The guy will be released in 2025, and I'm not surprised if he murders again.
I guess no system is perfect.
