The last time the Democratic Party held the White House for more than two terms was the Roosevelt/Truman era, almost 80 years ago. Republicans have done it as recently as the '80s and early 90s with Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Consider that things usually improve for the country under Democratic leadership. Looking back over our Democratic administrations since Roosevelt, they have all left the country in better shape than they inherited it, with the exception of Jimmy Carter (I think Jimmy Carter had the best intentions and good ideas, but he was the wrong man for the wrong era).
Why is it that America always elects Democrats to see them through a crisis but once things start to become comfortable again, they go back to the GOP? Why not stick with what works!
Except for after The Recent Unpleasantness which ended in 1865 and Roosevelt, the Presidency has passed back and forth between whichever political parties there were about every two terms.
The other outlier was when the Federalists disintegrated and left only the Democratic-Republicans for a couple terms.
Your other premise is arguable-see Korean and Viet Nam Wars for just two examples. There are many more.

Yes. I said about every two terms. Plus Reagan/Bush was mentioned in the opening post.
I felt, from reading his other posts, that Bawac needed some historical perspective. The early years of Washington and Adams and then Jefferson until Harrison when there was really only one party were unusual. Although the D-Rs changed their name around Jackson.
