Prove ANY of it.

The last big tax cut bill was from W. Bush and EVERYBODY who paid taxes got a cut.

In fact the wealthier tax payers ended up paying MORE.

A simple question for you.

Have you ACTUALLY read the bill? Or are you just spouting off nonsense because of your own bias?
Lol this an odd post. What is there to prove exactly? Nope I haven't read. The bill I did read the article that analyzed the bill. It's a massive cut for everyone except the poorest 10%.

So yeah that's a middle and working class agenda. Republicans propose massive income tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit the richest Americans. They propose to rolling regulations and environmental laws to benefit rich people and they give everyone else social security cuts.

An expert?

You hav weird responses. You keep trying to make this discussion about me. But Trump admitted he has done little for American workers.

That's his track record. That and going bankrupt and ripping people off.

I totally agree with means testing for both Social Security and Medicare. If you don't need it, then leave it there for other people.

I doubt the bill will pass as is, but I'm glad it's at least being discussed.
Me too. We both receive Social Security.

Means test is a good idea.

As for your friend's question, "Why not", there is a very good reason for him to wait. And it has to do with taxing Social Security when other income exceeds a certain amount and the recipient is not yet 66 years old.

"One of the most enduring myths of Social Security is that a worker has a legal right to his Social Security benefits. Many workers assume that, if they pay Social Security taxes into the system, they have some sort of legal guarantee to the system's benefits. The truth is exactly the opposite. It has long been law that there is no legal right to Social Security. In two important cases, Helvering v. Davis and Flemming v. Nestor, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Social Security taxes are simply taxes and convey no property or contractual rights to Social Security benefits."
(No trust fund; No insurance; Just a tax)

Frankly, abolishing Socialist Insecurity would be the best thing to happen to America. That legislation has destroyed the country for over 80 years. It penalized the worker and rewarded the non-worker. Anyone with half a brain sought to become "entitled" and milk the system.
Just watch all those TV ads for items "covered by insurance."
And yet, many who would otherwise qualify are denied, because the system is overburdened and really can't afford what was allegedly promised.
It was always a "tax and bribe" scam from day one.

Best of all, it would remove the incentive for those to invade America for a share of the goodies - at our expense. Why have an anchor baby when you're not going to be eligible for assistance.

Pay attention, RW.
He is not president yet.

When he is, the refinery that employs you will be a more secure place to work. Right now you are in danger of losing your job.

What they like about Trump is that he told them their probkems are the fault of non white Americans and that Trump was going to punish those non white People in America by banning some of them, by deporting some of them, by creating a national stop and frisk program, by putting some of them under surveillance, and generally by making theirs lived worse so they won't want to come here and some will leave.

The economic populism stuff was utter bs that they don't care about.

They do care about Trump using the government to punish non white Amerucand and diminish them within American society.

They'll care about it soon enough if SS, Medicare, and other safety nets they depend on start getting eroded or slashed. They're in a fog about that right now.

In 2005, the Bush 2 Admin pitched privatization of SS.

The pitch sought to allow those 55 and under to gradually designate up to 1/3 of employee/ employer Payroll Taxes into federal government selected mutual funds. These funds would be similar to 401k with substantial penalties for early withdrawal.

It required government to borrow funds to pay benefits to those 55 and older that would have otherwise be paid for with Payroll Taxes.

It was open to cuts in benefits for future retirees, including but not limited to:

Limiting benefits for wealthy ( means testing)

Indexing to prices instead of wages

Increasing retirement age

Harsh penalties for early retirement ( age 62)

Republicans held the majority of both chambers in 2005-6.

The pitch failed to gain traction and died.

There have been numerous SS Reform bills. Thus far none have gained traction.

Looks to me they felt the same way.

^^^^This. Regular hard working people that worked their entire lives are looking to get scr3wed badly with massive social security cuts that will increase the retirement age from 67 to 69 and also cut the amt of the monthly social security check for hard working American's entire retirement. Could be $700 less per month in social security every month for the average person. That's a $9600 annual CUT in their retirement income for their entire life. If they lived 25 years after retirement this is a $240,000 loss in Social Security benefits.

Adding 2 additional years for full retirement age (67 to 69). The 2 years of missing money could be a $50,000 lump sum LOSS (loss of 2 years social security income).

$240,000 loss in month benefits + $50,000 loss = $290,000 CUT in Social Security benefits for an average hardworking American their worked their entire life. My estimated cut in Social Security is actually worse than this example.

This is very bad for hard working people.

Right now, it's just a proposal. It'll get reshaped again and again and possibly shelved. Too early to get nervous.
