Yes you can. Happens each administration change and quite often throughout.

Might want to wake up and go outside from time to time and breathe in that fresh breath of reality so as not to have a system shock.

We do NOT need a witch hunt.
We need the DOE closed completely. I am hoping that is why Trump picked Perry.

If Trump has NOT been sworn in and his Cabinet has NOT been "confirmed" yet, HOW could Trump's team find out WHO worked there and HOW could he "circulate" the questionnaire within the dept., especially when the Agency is filled with left leaning Obama people?

Being this from the NYT, I have serious reservations about its validity.

After reading the other posts I see where the OP LIED with his title.

Another poster stated that the DOE has REFUSED to circulate the questionnaire, so why did the NYT make such claims?

It has proven itself to be treated the same as the Philadelphia Enquirer

"What do they know with helping the middle class and bringing jobs back."

DUH! THEY ARE THE PEOPLE WHO CREATE THE JOBS.

How many "middle class" workers have created thousand of jobs?

Some on her are amazing, just AMAZING!

We DON'T need an entire Agency to accomplish those things.

By the way those things you mention are NOT all of what the EPA does.

Well then get rid of it, it's certainly within their power. They wanted to get rid of DOE, EPA, Dept of Ed, so just do it and stop talking about it. This was one of their campaign promises, so let's see if it was just bluster or if they really meant it.
IMO, every single program in the fed gov't should be audited and decide if that program is worth borrowing money to keep it going.

There are knowledgeable scientists who have chosen to devote their professional lives to the public good, not one political party or another. The data they are generating may have nothing to do with the climate change debate and they may not be spouting extreme climate-related nonsense either. Just because a researcher like this happened to attend a conference on climate change topics does not mean they do work that has no merit or use. Good science avoids bias whenever possible. Others usually add the political spin to data. IMHO, there is a lot of atmospheric and climate related research and monitoring that is pretty darn useful to have. Whether you want to believe in climate change or not, much of the work these folks do affect the lives of millions around the globe, even down to your nightly tv weatherman. You want to know when to dive into a tornado shelter or board up your barrier island beach house before the storm hits? Thank a scientist.

Assuming there's a way to manage the dangerous waste it generates. Can't just keep stockpiling it out of immediate eyesight.

What is an "agency"? If there isn't some organization mandated to handle the huge workload assigned to DOE who do you suggest should? Your local city council? Your neighbor Ralph? Come on. If DOE is a problem, dig into it and revise the mandate, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
