my point is it doesn't matter how one self identify.
It does when those statistics are used politically and decide how federal funds are distributed.
The "hispanic" category was invented so that Mexican-Americans could get federal money and protections. That is literally the reason we call people "hispanic" today; that's what it was all about.
If, by their own admission, they are white. They should not qualify for any of that.
It's ridiculous that a "hispanic" can be a minority AND be white at the same time. That's bull****. They're gaming the system for their own benefit.
I realize these people are not interested in having a conversation about these topics, they are just here to troll and have their other biased buddies agree with their biases.
A sincere waste of time communicating with people who are deliberately uneducated....
You must be speaking of liberals and ethnocentrics.

What's actually funny is you speaking as an authority on Mexicans. I've never heard anyone claim that, but you aren't interested in having a sincere conversation about anything having to do with these people or this topic, you just like trolling.
Keep your insults to yourself. One doesn't have to be an authority on Mexicans just look at the facts. 60% of Mexicans are Mestizos racially and that's just a fact. Mexican is a nationality and Hispanic is a culture.
Because racial categorization and the obsession over it is just garbage that seeks to divide people for no good reason. Why does it matter what they self-identify as? Whose business is that but theirs?
Hey, if you're white, you have the might and the right.
If you're white, you can claim oppression due to PC and people will feel sorry for you.
Try doing that if you're black.
Nobody's ever been pulled over by the police for DWW. (Driving While White)
If you're white the police will let you reach into the glove box for your registration and insurance card without shooting you.
Whites have all the advantages in this country. They automatically get the best schools, the best jobs and the best salaries.
If given a choice, everyone would be white, because of all the automatic perks.
Didn't you know? Jesus was white.
Santa Claus is white.
Angels are white.
Barbie is white.
Nobody ever calls you a Thug if you're white.
The president of the United States is supposed to always be white.(see, 8 years of racial division)
If someone gives you a choice of races, you bet your booty that you put down white, if you live in America.
Where the hell you been all your life. You put out a full page analysis and missed the most obvious reasons.
If you're black you get affirmative action, "diversity" grants, etc. Just look at the president for example. If he was white, would his prior qualifications won him the nomination let alone presidency?
I don't get how non-Hispanic whites do not get the dynamics of race in the Hispanic community. Latinos know who they are, they know what they're classified as in their own countries. This isn't a secret and anyone with cursory knowledge of LatAm would know this but how can the American government, the media and other supposed intelligent people not figure out such simple concepts.
In a nutshell; there is no Hispanic/Latino race. They classify themselves as either white, black/Afro-Latino, Asian, or mixed mestizo/Amerindian. Since there is such controversy over that latter word "mestizo" in the States, it's rarely used or thought of. Most Latinos that come to the USA fall into either the white category or mestizo category. They're either white like Selena Gomez or mestizo like George Lopez. If they have more European ancestry, even if it's olive skinned Southern European ancestry they see themselves as white. If not and they have darker skin and more Amerindian features, they're mestizo.
That's it! That is the gist. I've visited over 5 LatAm countries in my lifetime, understand the overall culture and have dated many Latinas and not once did I see this perception among them that they were world's apart different from Anglo Americans. Only the Latino youth think they're totally separate because of the new classifications. In the States, race is classified under this pure bloodline, one drop rule that is archaic.
I don't know how people think that an Afro-Latino Dominican like Sammy Sosa (pre-skin whitening LOL) would self identify as white. They wouldn't and they couldn't knowing what they know growing up in Latin America. They know better. In the Dominican Republic they would laugh at him and think he's crazy if he did.
America is just really weird about race and highly politicizes it into oblivion.

Why identify yourself as something you aren't? I'd question their motives.
